Jason Lee Parry

  I Jason lee Parry regard myself as a young artist that has a specific personal style and something different to offer to a world of drones. My friends are the people who support my vision and thus contribute pieces of their energy to my work. Due to the fact that I am self taught every aspect of my day to day life affects what comes out of my mind, so I try to surround myself with raw, interesting people who live life in a unique way. The people who have this vision were born to create. Their style is authentic and comes to them naturally. Its not something that can be taught in a classroom on a monitor. So called "photography schools" attempt to sell something that can not be packaged, to people who aren't sure what they are supposed to be doing. Passion is contagious, and anyone who has a real fire for something will find those around him that attempt to capture or imitate that...These days it seems that just anyone can snap a picture and call himself a photographer, but few actually care about telling a story or having their own style.  I personally don't limit myself to either black and white or color because I believe in using all of my resources when and where they speak to me. My photography has from time to time been regarded as racy or sexual, but sexuality in its essence is never my subject. I attempt to solicit an authentic response of any kind from my audience, and for some that will be sex while for others the same image can produce fear or sadness. I'm very particular about the models that I chose to work with. Its important to me that they bring their own emotion and personality to the shots. I have a hard time working with people who don't personally invest or connect to the concept.  This usually leads me to select models that I appreciate as people and can form some kind of friendship with. At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you are an amateur or a professional, its all about the potential i see in you. Likewise goes for my style and concepts. I never follow trends because they are so fleeting and so specific that they really limit individual expression. Society at the moment  seems to have gotten caught up with simplicity which doesn't always speak to me personally... and while it can produce a cool affect, its quickly become tired and homogenous. Instead of looking to current trends to dictate what I produce I shoot my intuition. When i'm faithful to that, the people that i'm working with connect to my vision. There is nothing better as photographer than the moment when your energy merges with the energy of your model and you both know that its working...and booze never fails.
