Trying to get inspired again. The last time I shot professionally was in 2009 while living in Arizona. Last model shoot I did was in 2007 or 2008. I forget.
I've done this long enough to know that breaking the ice with new talent is tough. It's like a first date. You're so worried about living up to each others expectations that it's hard to just let loose and explore the possibilities. Everything is so planned and awkward. I bring this up because it's very important to me to develop a friendship with the people I work with. I'm not talking about let's go to a movie and hang out at my house type friendship. I'm talking about strong communication and looking to fully understand each other's personalities.
I shoot for me, not the model, or anyone else unless I'm being paid to do so. I try my best to find people to work with that really get into the same style of photography that I'm into. This way we feed off each other like band members do when creating great music. To me it's all about the photo and not anything else. I don't shoot to make people look sexy, hot, attractive, glamorous, or anything like that. To be honest I think the only thing that will drag me back into shooting with models is to find someone or a few people that love to try to create a story with their pictures. Like a movie still. Something that will make the person looking at it create their own story based on what they see in the picture.
Here are some important note to consider before asking me to shoot with you:
** If I'm not bring paid to shoot for you. I expect to retain all rights to the photos I take. The model or models will be given low res digital copies to use in their online portfolios only. This includes the use on any social media websites. The images will all contain a non obstructive water mark of some sort to let the view know who took the picture.
** I'm not affiliated with any porn companies nor do I want to ever want to be. If you have connections with companies like this find another photographer to work with.
** I will not work with any models bound by modeling contracts with anyone.
** Model escorts are permitted at my shoots so long as they have no photography background at all (I'm not a free photography 101 class). Boyfriends, moms, dads, and brothers are not escorts. If you feel the need to bring an escort please keep in mind helpful friends that are excited for you are the best type of escort. They keep the mood fun and without tension. I only bring this up because I've had models bring amazing escorts that really helped out allot when we needed them and then I had models bring escorts that came to the shoot looking for any reason to become Mr or Mrs bodyguard/protector.
** As for nude shoots... I've been a grip for a friend of mine that was doing a topless shoot. That's the most experience I have with shooting nude. I'm not opposed to doing nude shoots at all but I won't pay you for it. However I am more than willing to negotiate the rights to all nude or revealing photos to insure that you are fully protected in the use of these photos. This is something I'm really wanting to explore from a very non typical artistic point of view. I don't want people looking at the pictures thinking, "hell yeah she's naked". I want them to see the picture and realize it's a piece of art that should be respected and not looked at like it's porn. I say that because this website is full of crap like that. I don't want to take part in anything like that. If it's not worthy of hanging in a gallery it's not worth my time or effort. I'm not looking to stock pile a bunch of pictures of naked models like many photographers on this site do. That doesn't impress me at all and it's a little creepy/suspect.
** All model agreements and copyright paperwork will be given to the model at a face to face meeting for you to take home and read prior to us scheduling a shoot. All paperwork must be signed and returned prior to us scheduling a shoot. This is to insure that you don't feel pressured into signing something you haven't had a chance to read over and think about. Plus I want both of us to come to the shoot not worried about anything other than creating amazing photographs.
** Again I don't shoot to make anyone look sexy, hot, beautiful, or anything along those lines. If you want to be a model you should know it's always about the picture not about you as the model. I can't and won't work with models that are just looking for a portfolio full of "damn I look good" pictures. You have to leave you ego at the home when shooting with me. Who knows I may want you to look all homeless lol. I laugh but I'm dead serious. I'm looking to create artistic photos that I can look at 30 years from now and think damn that's still an amazing picture.
With all that bring said, send me a message if you think you and I are on the same page. Everything in my portfolio is really old. If you look at those pictures you can see my style but I'm looking to create something completely different than what you see in there. I'm a little rusty but I don't doubt my ability to know some pictures out of the park with the right model.
