Michael Pearce

I am proud to call myself an amateur once again.  These days, I am strictly a photographic artist, working solely on my own projects.  I am no longer taking client work, and I am not available to produce images for your portfolio.

My Style

When it comes to art, I am just beginning to explore the possibilities, and it is too early to know how my style will evolve.  However, the ideas and concepts I am working on do offer some insight into where I will end up.  Some of them are visual, but most of them are symbolic, containing elements that make you think.  I am striving to find ways to make a statement or tell a story in layers, one which provides deeper meaning after a second glance.  I am also fond of images that make people think about elements in our world which are normally ignored, a subject I have explored in my still-life work.

Current Ambitions

I want to break out of the habits and patterns of glamour photography.  Specifically, this means producing photographs that are not about the model, in which the model is not necessarily the center of attention.  No more glamour, no more fashion, nothing commercial.  Instead, I am concentrating my efforts on concepts that can help me develop a new way of thinking.

Shooting With Me

Please do not approach me about building or updating your portfolio.  At this point, I prefer to work with paid models; I am no longer up for the obligations of delivering images back to the model.  I will consider TFP/TFCD only if the model is willing to accept the few images I choose to use for my own portfolio.  Though I am willing to work with people who are relatively inexperienced, models should be able to provide examples of the type of work they are being considered for.

Filmmaking

I am also spending much of my time working in (motion) film and video.  Cinematography has much in common with still photography, both technically and artistically, yet there is also plenty for me to learn.  The same can be said about lighting for film.  I am also dabbling in some special effects, and of course this is an opportunity for me to apply my writing.

If you have acting ambitions, please contact me.  The team I am working with has a number of short film projects we would like to work on.  Finding actors is often the thing that slows us down the most.  I will occasionally post casting calls for our more immediate needs, but please feel free to talk to me about projects I don't have listed.
