Rebecca Tillett has a complex understanding of the world that may, in the end, interfere with her perception of the world. Luckily for her, she has cameras. And a tremendously cultivated skill set that is encouraging and driving her to look inward... --
Denver SyntaxFor one so young (only 25), Rebecca Tillett has achieved a great deal: she is an accomplished photographer with a quirky, imaginative style of her own.
Her photography is both gritty and colourful, charged with emotion and eroticism. As she says herself, “a large majority of my work is based on human lust and sexuality...--
Devora RanI adore this girls work. Artfully candid and refreshingly free of contrivance and posturing, becky tillett’s work is fueled by her appetite for sensation and creation and informed by her refusal to deny herself “of something as insanely beautiful as the unclothed human form” --
SugarcutRebecca Tillett: a photographer from Las Cruces, New Mexico. Tillett insists her photos are anti-artistic; perhaps they are. Her work is fueled by a naked refusal to respect the sacred object. The photographs convey her existential fury, her profound anger toward the body (hers and others), and, at the core, a chilling sense that everything is ultimately disposable. --
BelieverThe camera can represent flesh so superbly that, if I dared, I would never photograph a figure without asking that figure to take its clothes off. -George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)
Hi there,
I’m a part-time hobbyist photographer, full-time graphic designer. I’ve been shooting for fun since I was about 16…so ten years going strong now. It began as an escape and morphed into a 3rd eyeball.
My high school didn’t offer any photography classes and I ultimately decided on a digital graphics degree at the local community college which explains why, to this very day, I’m still a moron behind a camera lens but sit me down in front of a computer and I can take a mundane image to something you wouldn’t mind hanging on your living room wall.
So because I work full-time, I need to schedule shoots weeks, sometimes months, in advance. It’s incredibly difficult for me to do something on the fly. This can be an inconvenience at times, I realize but when I feel rushed or unprepared or have limited time, good photos are rarely the outcome.
An idea for a shoot will usually begin with a prop or a location I’ve found. Typically, the model is the last missing piece to the puzzle. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. And when it doesn’t, we’ll usually get great photos anyway.
I’ll only pursue or accept TFP with models I know will add something to my portfolio and I would only expect to be pursued for similar reasons. Models willing to do nudity are a huge plus and I’ll rarely turn them down. Ideally, I seek out models that are willing to try anything (within reason, of course), that are fearless and confident. Partly because those qualities equal amazing photos and partly because I look for qualities in people I’ve never quite possessed myself. Experience is a non-issue for me. I’m willing to work with someone who’s never modeled before to someone who’s modeled a million times. Both have something to bring to the table.
Humor, though, is an absolute must. If you can’t laugh, we won’t get along well.
As I alluded to above, photography itself has never been my strongest suit. I have one digital camera, a couple lenses, and an external flash. They do well by me and that’s all that matters. So if you ever notice me fumbling around with equipment with a somewhat puzzled look on my face, try not to worry too much. You may want to remind me that my batteries may be dead or something.
