I grew up in art, surrounded by the wet darkroom. But as life has its funny ways the analytical prevailed and the right-brain took the back seat. I am an infrastructure Engineer by trade, and a photographer by night. I shoot a good amount of paid work to fund my addiction to old cameras, film, paper, and chemistry. I do my own developing and printing, and prefer to shoot film over digital.
I've worked with numerous talented individuals on both sides of the camera. All have been an influence and inspiration in more ways than they know. I am a complicated personality. While quiet and almost shy on the exterior, I constantly analyze the intricacies of visualization, composition, construction, and the execution of imagery. Balancing technique with the creative artistry and collaboration with all others to reach a final image is my goal.
Photographic focus and enthusiasm has changed a lot over the years. I used to singly love shooting people. In an effort to create unique work, I combined HDR and exposure blending to create surreal images of those I photographed.
While this was highly successful for a time, it was also trendy. I started shooting film again, and spend much less time editing. While being outfitted for small format digital photography, I’ve indulged in medium format film, and have now moved to large format. I continue to do work here in large format film, but my time is now shared with still life and landscape photography.
As much as I'd love to be some famous landscape photographer printing in the darkroom behind a formal gallery, or a celebrity wedding photographer, the reality is, I'm just here to share my art with others. I am honest, and considerate.
If you have a project, or idea that you’d like to shoot, send me your inspirations in a message, and let's see what we can create.
I am based in Honolulu, HI and do light domestic travel. Contact me if you’d like to visit my studio in the prestigious Chinatown Arts district.
