I take dark, fetish- or bondage-oriented thoughts and visions, painstakingly plan out environments and scenes to realize them, then carefully choose models to be part of the storytelling photos which result. I've got a fancy-ass camera and billion-dollar lights and outta-sight props, but none of that really matters. All the important work happens in the brains and bodies of the people involved. I shoot photos, but I don't shoot photos of naked chicks. Naked, and typically restrained-looking, chicks are critical elements of all the work I do, but most of the erotic, titillating bits are what ISN'T shown and what the image creates in YOUR head. That's what I seek to do, spark something deep in your head, that being good or bad is the viewer's job.
My day job and my awesome model wife take up most of my time, so I don't get a chance to shoot very often. Photography isn't what pays my bills, so some people don't like it when I say "I'm a professional photographer." Validation that the results are impactful should be apparent (or not) just by looking at one's portfolio. The degree of professionalism should be apparent from talking to models and MUAs that I've worked with. Please do both: look at what I produce and talk to those who've been critical to the results. You decide.
When I do work, everyone involved gets paid for their time. If you want to do some kind of trade thing, you probably want to talk to my wife. I'm no David Hilton with the gift of being able to produce hundreds of incredible nudes just by hanging out with a gorgeous model for an afternoon. I'm a OCD planner lone wolf insane creative person that can do interesting things with ideas that sprouted in my own head from the decades of fertilizer material and experience which has collected there. Give me no planning time and just "how about nylons and Cracker jack boxes" and you can't expect the same intricate, rich, startling work you'll see on the following pages. I'm just not that kind of photographer. Don't fret; you can find those if that's what you're after. Just keep looking.
If you do want to be part of my kind of work, drop me a line. If you are on my "gotta shoot with" list, let me know if you're ever near Philly. firstname.lastname@example.org or www.RestrainedPhoto.com
Models: listen up!
Are you a newbie? Are you a professional model? Either way, you have to treat modeling like a job and check references before wasting your time on deadbeat or scammer photogs.
It is honestly sad when someone stands you up for a shoot or, worse yet, shoots with you and then skates out without paying. That sucks, cuts into your livelihood and makes this gig less appealing. For us legit photogs, it makes us look bad as well.
Avoid it all together: check references before agreeing to do a shoot. Ask to see the release beforehand. Demand to see payment before you start shooting. Bring an escort.
Those of us who care and treat this as a career, a profession, won't mind. We want you to enjoy the work, get paid, and look forward to working together again.
If you're new to modeling, you should spend a bit of time checking out this site www.newmodels.com to answer some of your career questions and set your expectations. If you plan to be a fetish model, you can throw out all the must-be-this-tall and must-be-in-NYC comments, but some of the rest of the site's guidance is good.
