Who I am, why I'm here
I've been professionally taking photos for about five years, first as a newspaper arts reporter, then a magazine photographer and now a studio artist. In my current work, with models, designers and MUAs, I strive to create new art and develop various ongoing projects.
Primarily I am interested in producing portraits of people which are not so ordinary, with an emphasis on the genres of glamour, fetish, nude and macabre.
Besides working with models, I also have extensive experience with nature photography, having lived for several years in the wilds of Northwestern Canada and travel photography, having visited 44 countries.
As an arts journalist, I have photographed and written about a variety of musicians and other artists, including Daniel Lanois (U2), The White Stripes, Joel Plaskett, The Weakerthans, Hawksley Workman and more than one hundred others.
Paid work vs TF
We all like to be paid, and I'm no exception to that rule. If you are a new model or other professional and are looking to build and expand your portfolio, I would love to help you. Please contact me for my rates.
If you are very experienced and would like to create new art, I will gladly work with you on a TF basis.
Here's my TF policy. No money changes hands and each party covers their own costs. In exchange for working with me, everyone involved will receive approximately 20 edited images by email, usually within three days, and a disc containing all original images by mail, within one week. No model release form will be involved, and all can be used by both parties for non-commercial purposes.
Some models mention wanting to bring an escort to a shoot. I never have a problem with this and always want the model to feel as comfortable as possible.
My studio is available for rent
I have a wonderful photo studio located in downtown Toronto at Queen & Bathurst. Three days a week (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays) I use it for my own projects, but the rest of the week it's just sitting around unused. Which is a real shame, as it's a great place to work, and so I am making it available for other artists to use.
The studio consists of a large, 300 sq.ft. room with various walls painted different colours for shooting against: Dark Red, Black, Light Blue, Bright Yellow and Pink. Throughout the rest of the building are all sorts of other interesting places to shoot including: The Back Door, The Alcove, The Windowsill and The Landing.
The studio also contains two large softboxes and an assortment stools, boxes, a couch and several bathrooms which can be used for changing.
