About Me: My name is Jodie Gabrielle Waite. I am 23 years old (born on the 18th of July 1986). I am from a small town called Doncaster in South Yorkshire. I have lived there all my life, around a small rural village called Fishlake; despite the fact most of my friends describe me as a ‘city girl’. Aside from photography, my interests are fashion, music and film. I have always been creative and was often described by my teachers as having a great imagination! I have always wanted to work in the fashion industry, as a child it was my dream to be a fashion designer, untill I realised you can make a living by taking photographs!
Career: I am right at the beginning of it! I am currently looking for work in any area of fashion and editorial, as well as portraiture.
Education: In the past I did several art courses. GCSE (in which I really started to bring photography into my work, I’ve known how to process and develop my own film since I was 15 years old), AS-Level (because my attempts at talking my tutors into doing an AS Photography class at my school failed) and then I started a Foundation Art & Design course which I had to quit half way through due to illness.
College: I started studying BA Honours in Visual Communication at Doncaster Collage's University Center High Melton in September 2006. My major was photography. In my first year I achieved a 2:1, which I was very proud of. During my second year I took the classes fashion photography, advertising photography, social documentary/photojournalism and architecture & interior photography. I received another 2:1 for my second year. I have just completed my third year of BA (hons) Visual Communication. I wrote my dissertation on the subject of 1990s heroin chic fashion photography and received a First for my grade. My final major project was fashion and editorial based and is called ‘Rock n Roll; Fact n Fiction’. For my final grade I received a Degree with Honours in the First Class, achieving a First in all modules of the final year, which were dissertation, my final major project and professional practice.
About work : For as long as i can remember I have loved cameras. I have loved taking photographs, been surrounded by photographs and looking at photographs.
I love portraiture. I've always been surrounded by pictures of the people I love. I believe portraits can do many things... make you smile, make you cry, give you confidence (portraits of yourself), etc.
As I have grown up I have also developed an obsession with fashion. Which is the other area I work in, fashion and editorial.
I have my own technical style which I ALWAYS stick with, every photographer should have a set technical style in order to make their work distinct. Although my personal work usually has a 'rock n roll' theme, I can work in any styles (high/commercial fashion/editorial, soft/commercial glamor, portraiture etc).
