My interest in photography grew from a love of landscape and railways. My dad gave me an old Zeiss Ikon 6x9 cm folding bellows camera that I still have today. Am more or less self taught through years of personal study and experimentation with medium format film cameras. A physics degree (minor in chemistry) helped too. Graduated the traditional route of wedding photography with all the pressures of waiting 24 hrs to see the proofs .. long after the wedding was over, and too late to re-shoot. This, together with my use of medium format cameras imposed a regime of 'getting it right' in-camera. I retain the methodical shooting techniques honed over a couple of decades (or more!).
However I've now been seduced by the ease of digital technology and have largely exchanged the smelly and lonely darkroom for the lightroom. However I don't shoot the digital scatter-gun approach that relies on editing software to clean up the mess!
My preference now is for edgy fashion, 30's - 40's glamour styles that combine outfits and styling typical of the era and burlesque styling also of interest. Experimenting with tasteful lingerie, dabbling with tasteful fetish styles also is an interest. Landscape art-nudes remain (to me) the 'purist form' of photographic artistic expression. (My) 'Terms of Engagement' are simple really. You work for my portfolio .. I pay you. I shoot for your portfolio .. you pay me. Yes, you read correctly .. We shoot for each other's portfolios .. we share costs. It's called 'TF' & seems fair to me. This is a COMMUNITY of artists who should be uplifting each other. We each bring expertise: talent and costs to a shoot. If you're 'beyond TF' then you think you are ready for a professional agent and no longer believe in assisting new talent to get where you are now, having probably used TF to get there! That to me is the bottom line. Yes, you gotta eat .. so have a professional attitude .. not "I wanna have fun!" I am not interested in paying
you to build
your portfolio alone. There are many other photographers out there who seem happy to do this for you!
.. maybe I will hear from a select few of you ... I don't wish to shoot endless "glamour" dross ..
