just came from NYC end of May '09. I work as an actor and teach acting at John Robert Powers. I am in the midst of developing a new system/technique ala Sanford Meisner/Stanislavski.
After getting an email from a person interested in learning to act and wanting to know if JRP is worth it, I wanted to write a little about it:
what I teach is rigorous and generally a lot of hard work. But its really friggin fun! whats more fun than lying and pretending lol? jk... I give out a lot of homework, I make you read about the history of acting all the way back to late 19th. I teach camera techniques, interpreting a script/analysis. I teach you to be able to critique students in class, what is intention/tactic action/activity/discovery/obstacle/IPC/the where/layering. I also teach commercial auditioning and improv. If you're interested in learning to act please contact me anytime day or night
