About me
*** 9/25/12: Limited availability for a while. Feel free to contact me about a shoot, but please do not be offended if I'm a while getting back to you.***
I'm a mostly conceptual photographer. I like working up concepts or stories and shooting entirely around that. A lot of my ideas center around spirituality, occult and supernatural topics, religion, conflict, and transformation. This usually makes my work a little dark, and tends toward heavy digital manipulation to get the end product. I'm always learning, and love a challenging concept, especially when I get to work with a brilliant team that feels the same.
Business, up front:
Compensation: Involvement with my concept work is strictly TF or barter (I always have extra prints on glass, wood, paper, etc, if you like). I'll work with you to decide on the details. All shoots require a contract and model release. While terms may vary depending on our agreement, they generally look like this:
TF Contract
Model Release
To be clear, I will not enter a financial agreement for a TF shoot.
I am available for commission on projects that fall outside my own conceptual work, and will consider barter for art and any manner of photography equipment.
Escorts: I prefer to limit people on the set to those actively involved in the shoot. If you require an escort on the set, please be willing to provide two references from photographers with whom both you and your escort have worked. I will also need to speak with the escort ahead of the shoot. Unexpected individuals at a shoot may have to wait outside or off location.
Friends: I keep my contact list small because it makes it easier to keep up with the people I'm likely to work with. I'm busy and a little scatterbrained, and a large friends list means people get lost in the noise.
Concepts for shoots: I'm currently interested in the following, with multiple concepts often bleeding into one another:
- Depictions of bodily energy in yoga, tai qi, qi gong, tantra, dance, martial arts, etc.; with few exceptions, shot as implied nudes.
- Multiple personalities, astral projection, depictions of individuals with other versions of themselves
- Cthulhu mythos and occult/religious topics
- And sometimes just some really silly shit stemming from my interest in gaming, zombies, obscure sci-fi/horror, and other nerdaphilia.
Credits
Parasite Eve, Clothing Designer, MM #180936 This woman has an arsenal of awesome outfits. Her designs really came together with the concept we shot and helped achieve the vision I had going into it. If you don't normally consider local designers for you shoots, go talk to her. You won't be disappointed.
Cassandra, Model, MM #1261854 She came, she saw, she kicked her own ass in a complicated digital composite that required imagination, movement, and expression. She nailed all of it and the result was exactly what I was hoping for.
Tarena, Model, MM #1158598 Tarena is gorgeous, creative, energetic, and was 100% engaged with the ideas we were shooting. It was a pleasure to work with someone so talented.
Josh Marable, Model, MM #1924894 Josh worked with me on a crazy complicated shoot to depict the Vitruvian Man in very awkward poses. He had a clear understanding of how to make the project work, nailed the expression I was looking, and did it all with good grace. He's a talented guy with a great sense of how his poses and expressions work with the camera and in composites.
Linda Hurley, Model, MM #2525593 - Wicked, cool, focused like a laser, expressive, and super easy to communicate with. She made easy what could have been a laborious composite shoot.
Graelston, Model, MM #1041816 - Went to war with herself in one of the craziest composites I've done to date. She's easy to work with, patient, and gets the post-production ideas that were so necessary to pulling off the poses in our shoot.
Amber Waves, Model, MM #98869 - Amber is a beautiful, cool, calm, and creative artist who is dedicated to getting the perfect shot. She pulled off some extremely difficult poses for light painting and *nailed* the concept.
The Original Oktane, Model, MM #774516 - Crazy flexibility and creativity! Ms. Original is super easy to work with and has a fantastic sense of herself in front of the camera.
Lily, Model, MM #814774 - It's not everyday you find a model who is enthusiastic about doing a classic pose with a tentacle fused to her arm. Lily was fun to work with and made some experimental ideas work smashingly.
Michelle, Model, MM #1285205 - This gal held poses perfectly during 30-second or longer exposures, and also delivered a stunningly beautiful headshot in infrared, which (at the time of this writing) is the only one I'll use in my port. She's cool, open, experimental, and fun to work with.
Maeri Certa, Makeup Artist, MM #706673 - Maeri worked with me to figure out an approach to makeup for an infrared shoot. While the shoot itself was a bust, Maeri's work was fantastic, and she was very open to figuring out a workable approach.
Megan Kolisch, Model, MM #594246 - All I can say is *wow*. Talent, beauty, extreme creativity, and natural poise. We did a very difficult light painting shoot with 20+ long exposures with very few re-takes; we traded great ideas back and forth the whole time, tried things neither of us thought about before the shoot, and pulled it off beautifully.
Anna Wallace, Model, MM #801008 - Anna was one of the first models to take a shot at a very experimental lighting style. Beautiful, cool, classy, and happy to experiment with different techniques until we got the shots just right.
Oriana, Model, Model, MM #820213 - What a beautiful lady with a graceful sense of her own poise and figure. Another dedicated and persistent lady who stops at nothing to get the perfect pic.
Truett, Model, Model, MM #1231978 - Holy crap! This guy sprinted up a tree and hung himself upside down from it to make an incredible scene.
Amanda Igaki, Model, MM #826889 - Beautiful, creative, thoughtful, and graceful. Amanda brought her A-game to a weird and experimental shoot and made some haunting images.
LizLowe, Model, MM #1243054 - The lovely Liz helped me early on in figuring out my infrared-in-the-dark technique. Her patience with experimentation and skill with holding poses on long exposures was extremely helpful in figuring this stuff out, and we ended up with a great scene.
Natalia, Model, MM #451727 - Awesome, vivacious, and somewhat daring. She brought beauty and poise to one of my first experiments with infrared and strobes, and nailed it.
