I am now available for shoots. If you would like to organise a shoot for November - December, please leave me a message on e-mail (above) and I will get back to you to arrange a date and discuss concepts.
I'm an artist, art tutor and freelance photographer with a preference for portraiture and seascapes. I have a BA in Medieval studies (with an interest in fashion) and Modern History (specialising in the 19c and 20c). I took up photography as a means of creating references for my paintings but the instant gratification from digital photography had me move from the brush to the camera.
Photography and painting are both about light, shape, colour , direction and form. To be able to draw the viewer's eye through a composition is to enable them to see the whole of the picture and to understand its narrative.
A photographer paints his work with light and shadow. They enhance the shape and form of the subject. A photograph is not about a beautiful model or scene, it is about light, shadow, texture, direction, narrative and passion. It tells a story and it exposes the innermost thoughts of the photographer and his model. I can only hope to capture some of these emotions in one frame.
I prefer working in available light but I'm comfortable working with lighting, which allows for extra creativity, when the occasion calls. I lean towards the dramatic effect that extremes of light and shadow create, particularly in monotone photography.
The free flowing fashions of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods (1890-1945) hold a particular fascination for me, I have studied fashion, makeup and hairstyles for that period and I'm always happy to do themed shoots.
I am available for;
* portfolio;
* headshots;
* fitness;
* fashion;
* promotion and
* portraiture.
* Portrait painting in any medium on commission.
I can offer TFCD on a selective basis.
After May 2009 my TFP policy is; I will forward to the model, by e-mail or cd, all useable but unedited shots as thumbnail files, from which the model can choose shots to be edited. I will then edit the selected shots, make small (72dpi), watermarked files of them, suitable for web upload, and large (400dpi), watermarked files for print. I will then forward a cd of those files to the model. I do have a professional printer on which I can print up to A3+ size shots but prints are extra to my TFCD policy and will incur a fee.
I retain copyright in all the TFCD photographs and any alteration / manipulation of the photographs will be done by me.
I prefer a chaperone for all shoots as it puts both model and photographer at ease. Models under 16 years MUST have a written, parent/guardian permission signed and that parent / guardian attend the shoot.
As a (very) mature aged, student, I'm studying my 3rd. year of a BA double major in Modern History and Medieval History at UWA focussing on 1900-1960s Britain.
