I first started with a job while in college scanning 35mm slides and learning retouch from there up. My education is in illustration/animation so I'm interested in emotion and movement. Retouching skills helped me get ahead faster in the beginning but the better I got at shooting the less I had to edit.

Yes, perhaps it would be a good combination.. :-) Although, I am a traditional photographer and not a huge fan of using photoshop for major enhancements.. I mainly use it only for things I would normal do in the darkroom anyway.. cropping, color, contrast, density, burning & dodging......and flashing the paper.
