Yes, I know exactly how you feel--I'm actually closer to 6'3" than 6'2", I think. I've learned to love it. Although it may keep me from doing extreme high fashion work, it's what most people have been interested in when shooting me or booking me for a job. So love your height! Legs are an amazing asset. 5'11" is perfect for everything--a lot of agencies cut off at 6'0" when hiring models.
I actually started by looking on craigslist and didn't find much, until I found ModelMayhem. I uploaded a couple of photos and got contacted by a bunch of local photographers. I met many and shot with a few, always with an escort, and then once I had a few shots that I liked for my portfolio, I went to a few agencies. For a couple of them, I was too tall. Then I found Ignite Entertainment, and just recently took my Polaroids with them and will start working under them soon. It's a management company, which is basically a non-exclusive (you can join other agencies and work other jobs) agency.
