Just shot my first male shoot - it was a different kind of shoot for me, but I think I did ok. Any opinions, please?

(Note - the photo is called 'Liam')

Hi Paul ..
Always did like the name "Liam" smile

I like the red light against him, but for me, there's too much space above his head.
I would suggest a tighter crop.

Thanks, Zabrena - I think you're right. I loved the background so much I did leave too much in.

Anyone else?

If you crop in too much closer, the light portion at the top of the background will become a thin bar and I believe will be distracting.  If you're going to crop in closer, take the time to photoshop out the light part of the top of the background and put him against a solid black bg.

Aesthetically, I like the shot.  I like that you didn't take the standard "strong male" pose, with chin towards the higher shoulder.  I like the lighting as well.

More than welcome, Paul.

I actually liked the lighter background also towards the top of the image, it's a shame to lose it.

If you have the chance to shoot at the same place again, perhaps next time a stool for the model to stand on so more of the background can be left in ...  ?
