I looking for a couple models for some paying shoots.  These will be PAID shoots, not TFP.  Payment on the day of the shoot in advance.

I decided to give up TFP.  Too much hassle.

Here what I need from the model.

You have to provide a studio location, and nothing creepy like a hotelroom, some secluded place, or your house.

Once you find the place to shoot, you will need to bring the following equipment:

One camera, preferably digital, a DSLR or FSLR, no point and shoot camera.  At least 10 rolls of kodak portra if a film camera.  A deposit for the film processing, if you want the film developed, otherwise, I will just let you pay the cost of developing it, and you can send me a set of the prints after the fact and pay shipping, etc.

Batteries, battery charger, compact flash cards, tripod, several lenses.

2 background stands and a cross bar, several backdrops, clamps to hold them in place, and maybe a few props, like a chair.

No less than three monolights, or a pack system with at least three heads.

Lightstands for each head.

Light modifiers for each light, like umbrellas, softboxes, grids, snoots, and flags.  Some colored gel would be nice, but not required.

A couple of extension cords and some gaffers tape.

A laptop and a card reader, must be c.d.rom capable, several blank C.D. roms, and a version of photoshop, preferably CS.

Now, as for the paying part.....I don't think $100.00 per hour is too much to ask is it?

If you bring all the equipment, then, I have no wear and tear on my own, don't have to pack it and unpack, don't have to worry that once I have unpacked it and set it up, that you won't show, and the $100.00 per hour is just strictly for the talent, no cost or expenses.

I will need a gas deposit depending on where the shoot is and how much mileage we are talking about.

You can send a cab for me, if you would prefer.

I like to have an assistant on a shoot, and he said if he doesn't have to pack and unpack all my stuff, he will only ask for $25.00 per hour.

Plus he likes to keep the escorts entertained, presumably, you will want one to help you carry and unpack all the photography equipment.

I have a makeup artist that said she would only charge half price if you bring all the makeup, a table, the lights, a blow dryer, curlers, some hair products, etc.

So, whose on for a paid shoot?

If you don't have any of the specified equipment, let me know, I can rent most everything on the list to you.  It's mostly just been going to waste and not generating any income for me while I was doing TFP shoots, so I have decided that renting it is a good way to recoup my original investment.  You wouldn't think that an 80-200 2.8 lens would be close to $1000.00, or a 300 2.8 would be over $4000.00 but nice glass really adds up.

Well, I was expecting to get paid.

If you want nudes, implied or lingerie, its a bit more.

I do not do fetish, don't ask, and I am not looking for a girlfriend, thank you.

I am willing to do TFP with exceptionally equipped models.

Well, unfortunately I only enage in TFP. Considering my first class tickets are picked up. My mobile mua needs to be sorted as well. My childcare for the duration of the shoot PLUS allow for for the time I spend travelling to the location in the childcare allowance. A base allowance for drycleaning of items supplied by myself and of course delivery of my lunch from the only exclusive mogolian restaurant in London. And lastly I need my beauty therapist to be sorted for teh waxing in preparation and of course where would I be without a maintained head of hair. So please don't forget the hairdressers bill.

I think it's this whole online modeling world that makes girls think they are truly models. I think it's just fun for them to tell their friends that they had a photo shoot.

To the model who said it was probably just fun to tell friends that they just had a photo shoot, for some that is probably true. But you are a model, so that doesn't actually look that great on you.

To the model who listed some of the expenses on our end...you took the words right out of my mouth! Except one thing, there are just as many photographers on here that hit up girls for TFP's and show up with the same camera my boss has for family photos ( a very nice, widely purchased Nikon digital camera), wants to shoot in the dead of the day under a hot, bright sun, and has no idea of what kind of poses he wants. Oh, except he may suggest a few topless, or if he can't talk you into that, at least implied nudity. Then, after some two or more hours in the sun, you finally get asked to sign a release that allows the photographer to do anything they want with the pictures that you are in, however you only have the right to use them on your portfolio. You cannot alter them or try to use them in contests for models, etc. BUT, that isn't the worst of it. A month or more goes by, and then MAYBE you get an email or, if luck be with you, an actual CD of pictures. Rarely any prints for a physical portfolio, but that's not a big deal. You look at the pictures that took a month because of "photoshop"...and it looks the same as the ones he showed you straight from the camera. Except his name is in the corner. You look sweaty and miserable, squinting from the light. Basically useless pictures. So you spent two or more hours of your time, plus the drive there and back (and gas is not cheap), you probably bought some items just for the shoot that are now sweaty and unreturnable (in case you wanted to), you're exhausted from holding that pose for several minutes over and over, and all for NOTHING. So it's not just hard on the photographers.
Granted, not all photographers are like that at all. I have worked with some great ones myself. Danny with GFP studios is great! So is Dwayne Hathaway. But I still don't think they should be able to complain this much. I am not dumb, not every model is, and I usually don't go begging for TFP's. But I surely do not have hundreds for pictures that may or may not get me somewhere. And a photographer isn't going to get anywhere fast without sample photos to show his work. You need a subject (model) for that, unless you just do landscapes, animals, etc. So go ahead, find you a professional model. Pay her a couple of hundred or more an hour, plus a make-up artist and hairstylist (pro models don't go without that, and they never have to pay that), and don't forget the wardrobe. Oh, and expenses/travel. Plus scheduling, I am sure they are very busy girls.

PLEASE quit answering these posts without reading carefully, and reading ALL of them if there are more than one. THINK before asking. You are not helping the stereotypical thought that models are not very bright. Please honey, I know you are not dumb, and you were just being professional. But think and read carefully next time!

Touche' Babygirl.

I remember the days when a girl would see some of my work, liked it, and would ask if maybe we could get together and shoot.  Granted, she didn't consider herself a "model" and I didn't and don't consider myself a "pro".

I was gratefull for the chance to shoot, and she was gratefull for the opportunity to get some nice shots.  Money, pay, releases, expenses, etc never got discussed or factored in.  I was happy because I got a chance to shoot someone new, and she was happy because she got some nice shots.

It was that simple.

Then came the internet.

What a drag sometimes.

I think some people forget how simple it used to be.

I started modelling off the internet, but 99.9% of my work has been done through the internet and I still feel as you say you used to feel.  Compensation and what-not is always nice but I do not ask for it in TFPs.  I recognize that the photographer puts in as much and more time than I do (pre-production,production,and post-pridcution time, etc) and I greatly respect that about them.  I have worked with some amazing photographers for absolutely nothing monetarily.

One photographer (MM#8446) I had set up a TFP shoot with saw some outfits he liked for our shoot so he bought them and let me keep them! Then as I was leaving the shoot he offered me gas money! It caught me off-guard because I am not usually offered compensation (even though sometimes it is a nice courtesy) but after that my compensation was knowing that he respected the time and energy I put into the shoot and that he was happy to work with me as well (we never even talked previously about me keeping the clothes or him giving me any money) so I did not accept the gas money. He also provided an amazing MUA which was above and beyond the call of duty! I am not saying everyone should be like this but it is just a breath of fresh air to know that someone really appreciates you.  Needless to say I will be working with him again

An then after emails and emails as long as this thread - frequently no model shows for the shoot - while a MUA and photographer get to know each other a little better in the expensive studio which is being used for this event.  smile
