I really don't think successful agencies spend much time scouting.  They are inundated with wannabes.

Hi Theda,

Actually, all agencies scout. They spend a great deal of time and money looking for qualified candidates. People that fit all the requirements; physical, mental, attitude, location, and ability are hard to find, especially for the fashion agencies. For commercial agencies, it's easier, but still no cake-walk.

That's one of the reasons that the internet agencies or model sites will never take over the industry. There is too much money to be lost dealing with unknown models (or any other professional) in the business. But you knew that part.  :-)

I love your posts!

No.

They got me paying work, albeit nothing I would consider "creative."

I figured when my booker got me (paid) work, he was doing his job. When my booker threw out a shot that was inappropriate to the rest of the portfolio, it's because he knew the market and his clients better. When my booker told me doing something in particular was not in my best interest because _______________, I listened.

Only during my second incarnation modeling these past few years did my own taste take sway and I did more "interesting" work but it certainly could not be considered a cash-positive endeavor.

Who are you talking about anyway? An agency such as Click or Average Joe With a Camera Who Thinks He's An Agent?

How come you sound so much like a working model?

I see "Agency" attached to a models profile and move on. Quickly. I did catalogues and more for 30 years found out quickly agent is just another word for problem.

Well, I have weigh in a bit here at least with the first hand knowledge that Hoot does indeed know the business from a business point of view and how it works.  Not making any statements pro or con; merely supplying affirmation that Hoot is making his statements grounded upon factual experience.

Dan is too...

Yeah, I don't like hospitals, either. In my case, they really did cause me additional pain. tongue  But then, so does my ex. So who's to say??
