OK, I've gone completely brain dead.

In CS3, isn't there a way to show the layer mask as a red overlay?
I can not for the life of me remember how to turn it on.

Quickmask will work... but I swear there is a way to see an existing mask. :-)

Nope, just shows the alpha channel of the mask...

Click on the mask channel, not layer. You'll find it in the channels palette.

I shouldn't answer this without having PS open and testing it, but I think shift+alt clicking the mask in the layers palette does the same as clicking the mask in the channels palette (sorry... I mean "panel"). \ is even better though.

Yeah \ works best. That's what I use.
