Alright, the formula working in CS3 doesn't work in CS4. I'm using an Apple so I'm normally relying on the option-click to mark my input. What's the new formula?

It should work the same. It works the same for me. Unless I'm not understanding you.

Option click to pull up the eyedropper and put a point on the RGB curve... not working because they set it up to where you can now directly alter the mask without opening it.

If by "marking input" you mean setting a control point, click on the target adjustment tool (highlighted). Then you can just left click to set a control point. You can also click and drag (up/down) to adjust that control point.

Do you have to set a control point for each individual channel?

It just depends on what you're aiming to do. If you want to adjust skin tones, for instance, you can go into each channel, click on the skin, and drag/adjust each color invidually. If you only want to brighten or darken an image, you can click and drag in the composite channel to adjust all three channels simultaneously.
