EDIT:  we have enough for the first game. If you still want yo play sigh up and we can run another game after this one is complete.

ALSO, the thread has been moved to here:

https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=546045

This might be a stupid game, or it might be fun. I just want to see if anyone would be interested. It could be a great learning experience for some people here also.

Here's the idea:

An image is chosen and opened in Photoshop.

Each person who participates in the game is allowed to add one layer type to the image. This can be an adjustment layer, blending layer, etc. This process will go in turn from person to person until everyone has added their layer type.

What does "one layer type" mean? It means that if you add a curves adjustment layer, that is the only type of layer you can add during your turn. You may add as many curves layers as you want but no other type. If you are adding multiple layers, place them into a group and name the group with your MM username. If you are only adding one layer, name that layer with your MM username. If you are adding pixel layers, the total area of all pixel layers should be no greater than the original. This means if you copy the background layer and invert a mask on it, then unmask approximately 25% of that layer, you can copy it again and unmask up to another 75% in subsequent layers. This will be an approximate determination because I want this to be fun.

There are 2 hard rules to keep in mind.

1. You may not alter the original layer in any way.
2. You may not obscure the original layer by more than 25%. By this, I mean pixel layers in normal blend mode can not cover more than 25% of the original image. Or, you may lower opacity to 25% or less.

If anyone else can think of any more rules that might make this more enjoyable, please let me know and I'll add them here. Or, if you think some of the rules I've come up with should be changed, speak up.

Anyone who is interested post here and also let me know if you'd be willing to donate an image for this. If no one is willing, we'll have to settle for one of mine. sad

I had hoped you would be. smile We'll wait to see who else wants to get in on this over the next day or so and maybe refine the rules if needed. Then we'll play.

Just curious, is the intention to "retouch" the image, be creative with it, or both/none/whatever?

This is an anything goes within the rules. We can make it a day each to do your thing. I'll have a site to host the psd file so when you're done, you can just upload it and post to let the next person know.

I was hoping to start with 5 people at least and see how it goes. If after one round we want to go for a second round each, we can do that too. I think 2 rounds might be nice anyway or is that too much?

We have 7 so far. If you all think that's enough, we can start. Does anyone have an image they would like to use for this? If not, when I get home from work later, I'll post up an image. If anyone else has an image, they can upload it.

The upload/download page is here: http://www.model-citizens.com/Uploads/

You will have to rename the file before uploading. Maybe just attach your profile name to the base filename.

I guesss we can just go in the order we posted here.

sounds good p2p. not sure if PK or Captain Hook are really in though.

I think its better if we do the organization here and start a new thread when ready.

My schedule runs hot & cold, but I'd like to be in the mix if possible.  I'll PM the OP with an email address, since I'm not on here every day (or even every week...)

I agree and was thinking the same thing myself. Besides, if we have fun with this one, we can always start another and refer back to this thread for the rules, etc.

I have a lovely young lady willing to be our guinea pig for this little endeavor. Even after I warned her about you. Her exact words were "Go for it!" I think that's a challenge to you, Koray. big_smile

I'll have to dig up a nice image of her that I think you'd have some fun with.

BTW, do you think I should add a rule #3 to state that when doing your own retouching, you are not allowed to do anything with layers that someone else added? Or is that understood?

And I'm thinking the layers can be added anywhere in the stack, not just on top.

OK. Just a quick glance though the images I have of her (I have over 800) and I picked out a few that look like they could be interesting. So, let me know what you all think since I don't want to be the only one who decides which one to use..

Nolette 20091107 0294 has potential to become very illustrative (fake HDR, tonemap)...do you have one that she is looking at the camera?

Nolette 20091107 0030 has potential for manipulation,

Nicole 090519 354 has potential too.

or we go for one of the faces big_smile

I was thinking 0030 or one of the faces to start with myself.

If we have fun, we can always try another one. big_smile

lets wait what the others have to say.

plus we shouldnt really work on a full size image when we can only display 800 pixels here so we dont have to worry too much about details.
I think 1600 pix wide should be our working size.
That way we can move faster.

That sounds good. I can also make up a gif to cycle through all the changes from each participant and post it in the OP in that thread.

So we have 3 votes for 0030 and 354. I think either would work for this.

If someone is in this for the beauty retouching and their turn is after Koray, we may end up with the most beautiful alien-looking woman ever.
