Hi, I'm quite new to this site, and also to photography. Been doing it for two years (I'm 18 years old now). I would love if you could take a look at my portfolio and give me some general feedback.

As for my style and goals, I want to get really good at shooting people on location or in the studio with or without strobes.

nice.  A little too centered.  Have ou thought of desaturating everything but the red?

I would crop it top and left.  get rid of the blue and go with a dark/light theme

WOA!!  beautiful eyes.  Excellent image

either center or not.  being almost centered looks like a mistake

ok, Im going to make a guess that your viewfinder/screen is not 100% and you are not accounting for the extra space in post processing.  chop off a little space on the left

Oh soooo much potential.  get rid of the car in the background, put her in grey, make the background grey, then use a spot grid to light up her face and make those eyes drive into your soul

I like it!  Simplify - get rid of the bracelett so the only real color is the liquid.  Also...um...she needs to shave her arms

AWESOME!!

I am speechless.  her eyes.....oh my

https://modelmayhm-8.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/100405/07/4bb9f30ac2aa6_m.jpg

the green in the background is distracting.  loose the bracelet. rest is perfect

Great portfolio!

Less Photoshop, more getting it right in the camera. Show us what you're really getting, not what your polished images look like.

You have talent.  I love most of it.

Your Photoshop work is within the bounds of good taste.

I disagree with most of the earlier comments about cropping – You did well.  Don't change anything with the red car picture.  Do center the frowny-face, though – It should be an easy fix in Photoshop.

Some criticisms:

The girl at the stream – Don't let your model slouch.

The girl with hamburger – She should look like she is enjoying it, not attacking it.

Girl on the rocks at the ocean – Whatever those white spots are on the left, get rid of them.  They are a distraction.

Thank you for the constructive comments, everyone! I really appreciate it. smile

As for the girl with the hamburger - the angry expression is intentional, and we did it that way because it would appeal to the theme of a contest we were participating in at the time.

I love the composition in this photo as well as the styling and location choice. The lighting is good too the only two things i would consider would be directing the model better, she seems nervous and like she isnt quite sure what to do, It would be cool if she had a look about her that said she wasnt aware anyone was taking her picture. Directing models isnt easy but worth learning. also its a little "soft" on the photoshopping, her hair is softened too much i think which sort of makes like a "glamour Shotz" photo. But you are incredibly talented and I love the creativity on your portfolio. also dont let anything i crtitiqued you on sink in too far as i am new myself, and just offering opinions.

If you're going to play with centered compositional components it's best to get them perfectly lined up in the frame.  The face below is a little too far to the right.

Keep in mind what elements will be distracting from your subject (in this case I'm assuming the model).  What draws the eye away is the bright area in the upper right corner.

Love the tone, exposure, use of strobe to light the model.. only critique is that her pose/expression doesn't match with the dramatic setting.

I love the creativity in your portfolio and look forward to seeing what you come up with next!  All the best.

1.  if you can put 20 photos in port do so.

2.   since MM makes landscapes come in smaller go with all verticals.

3.  keep working, you have talent. dont be afraid to make ' mistakes'.
