Obviously I'm not good at this, so I'm hoping to see some better results from the rest of you

I look at this photo and I wonder what is expected to accomplish?   The photo is very busy  and has lots of distractions,     I wonder why the head is cut off?  The area of the face and head are much darker than many other parts of the photo thus the eye is drawn out of the picture.     I do not know what is meaant about combining the two..  ????????

I'm not really sure what photo you are talking about here. Are you talking about the background ? This is only one sample that I've found. You can use any other background that you like. On my original photo of the model her head is not cut off, so I'm not so sure what you mean.
