I was blessed 2 see him perform @ the old club Glam slam on south beach - beyond words performance 2 say the least! The man was in rare form..was like 3-4 feet from him--whats real crazy is I hv been a fan 4years and he was totally way beyond what I thought he would be like in person... when he plays his gaitar its like he leaves his body--like watching someone have an out of body experience...the old Glam slam now "club mansion" is still purple velvet inside ...one of the coolest clubs on the beach and trust me almost all the clubs on south beach r c..o...o...l - anybody up on the family..  "screams of passion"?

I'm a bit too young but...
I've heard of him. Does that count?
^_^

Anyway, I watched the first Batman movie and noticed that the Joker was quite a Prince fan, as well.

my ex bought me under the cherry moon like an year ago ... im just waiting till he's back in the Miami area to check him out again - there is a local photographer here in Miami that i guess knows him and always takes his pics - I have a friend that knows the photographer so I put in a request to be contacted when Prince is in town. Maybe I will have the chance to kick it with him (hang out if you dont know) but in any event being able 2 watch him perform live at his old club (Glam Slam) and might I add that during the performance he closed the show which made everybody start cheering real real loud .. so he comes back out and closes 4 the last time with purple rain ... no words can describe that if your a Prince fan!

Ok. Trivia question for you...

What was Prince's first album?

Bonus..... What was the date the album was released?

No cheating looking it up on Google!

Hardcore Prince fans should know the answer to this one!

My all time favorite musician. I have not missed a NYC area Prince concert since I was about 12 (my mum had to take me)

I'm also slowly compiling all of the studio albums, side projects and outtakes.

Are we counting the 94 east recordings? Or his first album billed as Prince?

I kinda agree but that's without including MJ which is impossible if you have ears and live on planet earth ...

Let me share a true Prince short story .. had a female cousin that lived in Conn .. I lived in Mass .. when to hang out with her and her friends .. she was totally Princed out, wall in her room painted purple with Prince posters everywhere - I was a total football jock , thought Prince was totally gay ... lol ... when to summer college prep camp at UMass one summer in which they took us to the movies in Northampton Mass down the street from Smith College .. guess what was playing ... yeah "Purple Rain" ... Prince Fan every since!

I've thought of Prince as being extremely talented for many years.  He plays a huge number of instruments and his guitar playing is one of the tops.  His song writing is great too. He has written work for others as far as I know.

I believe him to be underrated by most people, mainly because they couldn't get past looking at him as a freak.

Nope. Not correct.

And yes, first album as Prince.

Hint: album had 2 words for the title.... One of the words is a number.

So not the 94 East stuff, not the sessions that eventually became that Pepe Willie "Minneapolis Genius" cash in.....and "For You" was the first album I can think of where he was billed as Prince, but that doesn't contain a number.

What am I missing here?

Erotic City is a work of pure genius.

Wish people wouldn't compare him vs MJ cuz they were both geniuses.

Considering MJ was a legend before Prince gained national exposure, it is probably safe to say that he himself was a fan and was probably influenced by MJ.

In his own way, MJ probably influenced in Prince the need to have albums worth of hits after the release of Off The Wall.

MJ could play instruments, but not as proficiently as Prince.

Prince could sing and dance, but not as proficiently as MJ.

There is footage of them onstage at a James Brown concert in the early 80's.

Youtube it.

MJ sings and does a little dance (which drives the crowd crazy), then he tells JB that Prince is in the audience.

Prince then comes onstage and tries jamming with the band.
He is not successful, because at that point in his career his "style" hadn't caught on. (remember when he opened for the Rolling Stones and how those crowds booed him)

I wish they would have recorded together.
