We took a Museumnacht tour of some galleries/chapels via an antique streetcar that is apparently trotted out just for the occasion. Dec 30 12 05:19 pm Link The azulejos of Lisbon make the city a giant art gallery and museum. http://www.neverendingvoyage.com/lisbon … oto-essay/ Dec 30 12 05:21 pm Link Pretty much any city that didn't get destroyed in WWI or WWII is fabulous! Some of their newer buildings are 200 years old. Our oldest are barely that old. Dec 30 12 05:21 pm Link Dec 30 12 05:21 pm Link Budapest Salzburg Heidelberg Dec 30 12 05:33 pm Link There are just sooo many... The title of your post IS proper...Cities vs towns... Many of the major cities are well preserved and that old world craftsmanship astonishes most Americans...Paris is a masterful mix of old & new! Berlin,Stockholm,Amsterdam,London,Madrid,Prague...all have such great history, architecture and yet still have a modern vibe and energy... All among my faves...but would make almost anyones list. A few underated, smaller places IMO are: Bruges,Belgium...Delft,Holland...Helsinki,Finland...Bristol,UK...Brest,France... Copenhagen,Denmark...Lisbon,Portugal and Vienna,Austria Just sooo many places would make my list....not even enough room here!!! Rome would also make my personal list. Dec 30 12 05:33 pm Link In no particular order... Paris Seville Prague Rome Geneva Zurich Nice Vienna Zermatt London Edinburgh Salzburg ...and just about any small town West of Turin right along the South of France coast! This is the region that places like Malibu, Santa Barbara, Laguna etc shamelessly imitated! Dec 30 12 05:41 pm Link Amsterdam, Prague, hehe, I'm beginning to see a pattern emerge here! Someone needs to mention Krakow to complete this...er nice trio! Dec 30 12 05:48 pm Link Dubravnik, Prague. Dec 30 12 06:14 pm Link London Fog wrote: Can you blame them? I've been to London, Berlin, Bruges, Dubrovnik, Prague, Milan, Venice, Sofia, Gent, Split, Zagreb and Vienna. Dubrovink and and Prague were my favorites, with Berlin and Bruges close behind. The weirdest thing, though, is the Reichstag in Berlin. It's this really old building with a glass dome on it. The glass is there because the allies bombed the hell out of it during WWII. For some reason, the Germans decided to replace the (marble?) dome with glass. Prague London Berlin Antwerp - Ghent - Leuven - Bruges Rome - Florence Jan 01 13 08:18 am Link Axioma wrote: Seriously, Budapest is just lovely. The view from Fisherman's Bastion over the Danube to the Parliament Building is just stunning. And Matthias Church, which is in front of the Bastion, is SO beautiful. I want to go there again. And to Prague. Jan 01 13 08:27 am Link Sure, come to Prague, everyone. Make sure you schedule a shoot with me too while you're here. No, all kidding aside, I adored the capital city of Rhodes (so much character) and Rhodes overall and Venice. Jan 01 13 08:36 am Link I like (and have visited) Prague, Paris, Rome, Venice, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and pretty much anything around Tuscany (especially in the fall) from my own country, I think Antwerp Bruges and Ghent are quite pretty Jan 01 13 08:59 am Link SayCheeZ! wrote: I have never been but what I have seen from pictures but I would say Prague and Paris would be on my short list. Nothing to blame, just a matter of tastes. Towns in my country i would reccomend will be Sighisoara, Sibiu, also Brasov. Nice cities with old town in the center, hotels in the old fortified town in Sighisoara, bars and so on. Jan 03 13 08:45 am Link |
