I have the Kacey dish, and love it.  It is lightweight, and great on a boom.  No worries.  The only problem I have with the Kacey, is getting grids.  They only offer one grid, and have been out of stock since the middle of last year.  I have emailed several times to get an ETA on a grid, with no response.  Ended up just buying the complete grid system from Buff, which, at 22 inches fits nicely in front of my Kacey, but we have to rig it on.

Yes, I had the same issue. I have shot with the Buff for years (Silver) with grid and I love it. Like some have said, I also don't like the reflector with the umbrella mount. It's a pain.

DONT RECOMMEND KACEY, ITS A FAULTY PRODUCT
So Kacey Claims to be a professional supplier, I got a delayed delivery, which they admitted was their fault and then they sent a beauty dish that doesent work, the bracket is faulty. I get a call from the team  explaining how I was weak and not able to screw the bracket and how it will take them only 2 minutes to  fix this. Well the least I expected was an apology, instead the guy almost yells at me and hangs up. I had better experience at ebay.

Shot with the PCB white beauty dish.  Never used a silver one.

I am not a fan of the PCB beauty dishes at all - the light is  just not like a proper beauty dish and the grids are terrible...   I primarily shoot molas but I own the kacey beauty dish as well.  I often use it out of doors and on locations -  my recent publication in Ellements and Dark Beauty (images 2 3 and 4 in my port) were shot with the Kacey beauty dish and the black grid by honeygrids.

i;ve been using the white buff one for about 7 years...but i just noticed that they changed it, and not for the better. it looks cheesy now, i'd go with something else, the buff one doesn't look very well made anymore

Used a Kacey Dish for a year. Great guy, and service. I loved it more than my Alien Bee due to the build quality. Not much difference in light (in my opinion) but worth the cost.

Now the Einstein light is what I attached it to, and I bought the custom adapter. Worth every penny.

I have and use the new version of the Alien Bees (Paul Buff) 22" silver beauty dish. I had the older one, but passed it on when the new one arrived. As others have mentioned, I really like the two piece design because it does allow me to vary the spread from the dish by moving the center reflector in and out. I also have the Alien Bees (Paul Buff) travel case for the dish, and I believe it to be an excellent design. It won't prevent a crushing impact, but for normal transport I've found it to be great. The travel case has a pocket for the sock (and I also store the center reflector there), and a separate zippered sleeve for the 22" grid. When I pick the case up to go out the door, I know I have everything with me!

And I have removed the center reflector (as others have mentioned) to use the dish with the sock as a general light source when I'm on location. (I find the dish to be much more stable in even a light wind than an umbrella or softbox.)

In the past I didn't use a beauty dish very often (I prefer parabolic umbrellas), but I've gone back to shooting black and white again (you can move to Florida, but there is always a little New York in your blood!). I have found using a grid with the beauty dish to get more dramatic lighting has pumped some new energy into my beauty work.
