So a couple months ago I got a Wacom tablet FINALLY and I'm feeling kinda dumb for not having one all this time.

I'm trying to steer my photography from alt/tattoo work more toward couture and beauty photography, or at least find innovative ways to blend the two.

If you're not familiar w Cervena, she's very popular in the tattoo modeling market.  But I found this particular shot very striking from a hair/makeup perspective and went to work on some retouching, and I wanted to post it for critique before "officially" adding it to my portfolio!

First glance, yes very beautiful, with alt flair.

Taking a closer look only 2 very nit picky things, her nose stud should be edited out or made more pronounced .. Looks kind of as as it is.
And the way her lips are pursed is not really attractive in my opinion.

I'll consider removing the stud.
The lips I don't think they're pursed, so much as that's how the lipstick was applied, with a little dodging/burning to make them look fuller...

Thanks.  Anyone else?

Then please consider add ethnic and gender diversity to your book... you'll not be taken seriously by those in the fashion arena with only Caucasian females...

Have you considered shooting with a full team i.e. hair; makeup and wardrobe...
keep in mind that if skin texture is absent you have failed...

Albeit, your posted image indeed has pleasing compositional elements smile

but I find this far more in the the beauty genre camp... just a tad bit too much tongue, it's a distraction which needs to be minimized... a quick adjustment layer to lower the luminance value would help...

Again, nice compositional elements... and a compelling narrative...

btw, you'll not be seeing much ink or face metal at the agency level in beauty work...

Don't believe your branding watermark does anything for either narrative...
might consider losing it...

btw, the transitional border of the hair to chest in the central lower part of your posted image is screaming retouch... not good,  best to learn/master how to blend hair/skin if you want to do beauty, k?

all the best on your journey...

Totally agree, in beauty lip symmetry is everything...

There is a compelling need for shooting at a low angle if the talent has unbalanced i.e. thin upper lip...

This is sooooo common in Caucasian women...
Much less an issue with women of color...

Your MUA can/should help here but the reality is it's best done in camera...

I work with stylists all the time.

For actual agency level work, I'll be working with agency models.  Which is why I want to step away or at least minimize tattoo/alt model work.

That particular photo you posted was from several years ago, when I was trying to rebrand.  The photo I posted reflects current mark.

I'll try to work again on hair/lips.
It looks good full res, I think the web resize/sharpening made it look iffy.

Thanks

Ok.

I've removed nose stud, I've made the lips more symmetrical, made background less pure black, and I really went to town on the edges of the hair, literally painting individual stands (which frankly could not have been done without a tablet)

I feel REALLY good about this version, what do other people think?
