Hey Girl! First off, you need to decide what type of plus size modeling you want to do! (This is based on my research, this does not reflect the opinion of everyone in the modeling industry) Straight Plus - Sizes 12-18, 5'8"-6'0". Models like Fluvia, Emme, Tocara Jones, Madeline Figueroa, Lisa Scott, Angelikka, etc. "Straight Plus Models" are tall, toned, and fairly porpotionate. Pretty much a curvier thicker version of a skinny woman...including a relatively flat stomach, no stretch marks, double chins or apparent fat rolls. (Try Googling those names and check out their online portfolios.) You'll find Straight Plus models on runways, Lane Bryant Catalogs, Dove Commercials, etc. These type of models get signed to the plus size divisions of major modeling agencies in NY and L.A. Speciality Plus - Sizes 14-24, no height requirements. Models like, Charlie Curvada, Nahid Baghery, Nadirah Bahar, Michelle Krehl, Tiffany Kaelin, Lynda Ray, Danielle Rhoten, Claudette Rangel, Kenna Piercy, Tasha Duff, Amanda Hussey, etc. Speciality Plus models have much curvier figures and are not always porportioned! (ie, small on top w/big butt or huge boobs, pearshaped, etc.) They have stretch marks, cellulite, even sagging breasts. They're less toned, yet... of course... still beautiful models! You'll find Specialty Plus models in low-budget films, online clothing catalogs (ie. Big On Batik, Monif C, Big Gals Lingerie), plus size beauty pageants (Mo'Nique's Fat Chance), etc. Most Specialty Plus models belong to modeling teams rather than modeling agencies...(Buxom Entertainment, Curvaceous Magazine, Plush Kats, etc.) BBW Adult Modeling - Usually the first thing people think of when they hear "BBW Modeling" is fattie porn sites... well, they're usually right! Unfortunately, alot of fat women don't do enough research to find that there are OTHER avenues of plus modeling to get into, or they think they aren't good enough for regular modeling so they start with adult/erotic modeling. (However, there are alot of ladies that genuinely enjoy that type of modeling.) Most "models" are size 18-36 (general opinion is, "the bigger the better"). There are tons of BBW porn sites, as well as erotic BBW magazines (BBW Bunnies, Bodacious Magazine, Big Butt Magazine, etc.) Sooo.... it all depends on what your shape is like, how tall you are, what size you are, and what type of modeling you want to do (fashion, print, erotic, etc.) Hope this helps!

Hmmmm...from what you said I could go into either the first or the second... For the more plus size but still straight styled models I could probably do that. I have a pretty toned body. But, I do have one thing that concerns me, they usually like a proportioned height with size. So, me being a size 16 and 5'7" would probably be my downfall with that wouldn't it? The second one would be more my thing. Not to mention it sounds like it'd be awesome to do. But how do I start working up to something like the second one? See I'm struggling understanding how to get there...especially living in Minnesota. Seeing as you've worked with this business quite a bit I was wondering if you have some insight on that? -Jess

Unfortunately, there isn't alot of Specialty Plus Modeling Teams/Orgs/Groups/etc in your area... We have a ton of them here in California, and I've heard there's a big girl revolution going on in NY. ;-) The best advice I can give you is just keep scouring the internet! Join as many online discussion boards, yahoo groups, myspace groups, etc. that you can and start networking...

At that height you should try commercial llamaing. Plus size fashion llamaing requires many things, the main one being height.

See . . . and I'm a size 4 and 5'2, so I'm screwed all the way around. LOL That's why I'm in theatre, where it doesn't really matter.

Wow that is great information. And we do need to get/start a good specialty modeling team here in the midwest . That will be great. Well lets see what my mind can come up with LOL!!! The best to everyone. Angie
