Christopher Michel is one of a few photographers whose work keeps me returning to Google+. I believe he mostly uses a Leica somethingorother.

When you get ready to pull the trigger, do some research. All of the Summiluxes are excellent. Almost all of the Summicrons, including the 40mm, are excellent as well. The slower Leica lenses are much more hit and miss. The 35 2.8 is pretty good, but I remember the 50 2.8 being sort of a dog. The 90 2.8s vary depending on version, and the C series 90 f/4 has beautiful colour, but is otherwise terrible, even considering the price.

Leica does indeed make the best lenses. But not ALL of them are at that level.

I was a heavy M user in the 80's and early 90's.  I bought an M2 from Jim
Marshall. The M (film) cameras made any photographer a better photographer,
in my opinion.  I do miss my early M6 as I miss K64.  The funny thing is that I had
a German 28 2.8 Leitz that I paid over $2,000 for and I bought a NIKKOR
28 f2.8 for $195.  I shot both side by side with the Leitz on my M6 and the
NIKKOR on an F4s, both at f8.  Both cameras using K64 and the images from the
NIKKOR were better.

I loved the M viewfinder, but I do not see how the M series bodies can compete
with the Nikon D800 or 810.  I also do not like it that Leica is going CMOS.  I did
not like Nikon going CMOS either, the D100 was a great DSLR and I still have a
couple of FUJI S5's (CCD sensors).  I do like the 3200 and 6400 ISO on modern
CMOS Nikon's though.

MM,

Sorry but I do not think the M you posted was one of Jimmy's bodies, Jim Marshall was a good friend as was Paul Fusco.
That was Paul's Leica, in my opinion.

Best,

Chuck

I use Leica's 90mm f/2 with an adapter on the Olympus EM-5 (latest firmware) for its IBIS.

Hi I'm Joey and I'm  an RF addict. My gateway camera was the Mamiya 7ii and the 43mm lens. Then. I graduated to the Leica IIIF Red Dial ST. From there, my fix came through the guise of of an M6 and an M5. Rangefiderforum.com is a den of addicts. Go there at your peril😱

I really want one.

Yes there are lots of great cameras out there. No I don't have gear acquisition syndrome. What I do have is an appreciation for certain specific cameras that are part of my love of photography.

So, if you have a Leica, share a pic of it or a photo taken with it and tell everyone yours rocks. I will do the same once I get one.

Thanks.

I have the same problem (but I want a M220) and read this thread. Did you end up buying one Mark?

If I can get everything out of the kit that I have, I will be stoked!

There's a Leica shop in Burlington Gardens in London and it's always oh so tempting. Definitely want one... but I get this every so often and tell myself I need to get better on my current equipment before just buying more/different set ups!

It's also how I keep myself away from Hasselblad 500cms.

Get a Leica! I had the bug, too, and eventually plunked down for the Monochrom. I absolutely love shooting with it and the images it renders are amazing! Happy to answer any questions you might have.
