samanthablack5422 This is a scam please contact the Moderators at this link Contact-A-Mod https://www.modelmayhem.com/contactamod Aug 24 14 07:40 pm Link "The shoot will held at a rented photographers studio very close to your location," So easier to bring their entire crew to you than to pay your transportation. LOL "As soon as you get the payment, you will deduct $500 and send the remaining balance to the wardrobe stylist." This is the scam. Why would they send money to an internet stranger? Their check will bounce and your bank will come after you for the full amount. Aug 24 14 08:07 pm Link scam...notify....goes on and on Aug 24 14 08:15 pm Link These types of fakes send this typical email to all new models who join this website and the moderators should do something to block this. I got exactly this same email & fortunately reported to moderators. The account gets inactivated and then they create a new account. My problem is how they are able to create accounts on this site with so much ease! Aug 24 14 08:39 pm Link If you are unsure about something, that is what the forum is for. To ask questions others may consider silly. It is better to be safe than sorry. Basically, they send you a fake bogus check. You deposit it, and write a valid check to them. They cash your check quickly, and their check bounces. The bank of course honors your valid check, but you might not have the money. Now you have a hot check for a large amount. Very bad situation. If you have the money in your account from other funds, then they get your money and run. You might be able to put a stop payment on the check, but I am pretty sure they run the check to the bank to cash it pretty fast. NEW MODELS; Learn about scams Internet Fraud The Top 10 Internet/Email Scams Common Online Scams Aug 24 14 09:07 pm Link According to your profile you have "no experience". Realistically, no one is going to pay $1100 to work with a model that has no experience. That was the first clue this is a scam. If you had responded they would send you a check to cash and forward most of the money to someone else. Their check would eventually bounce and you would lose the money you had forwarded. I would nominate for the job Filles de Pin-up, who posted a few posts above you, and who seems to regularly post good stuff for Newbs. Aug 26 14 01:59 pm Link RE: having a MOD or FG contact newbies, would that we could, but if we did, we'd literally have no time for our own lives, let alone discharging our other MM duties. Frankly this is an area where the membership as a whole can do a much better job than the administration, simply because there is a certain amount of "they're just a bunch of old poops" inevitably assigned to the administration by a lot of newbies (especially if it comes in the form of unsolicited advice), whereas advice, warnings, good suggestions from you, the membership as a whole, the guys in the trenches, if you will, what you're all doing right now, as a matter of fact, is often more acceptable and therefore more beneficial to the newbies than all the stickies, edu articles and Mod or FG notes in the world. So please, keep on doing what you're doing and keep getting the word out. Kudos to all of you! You really are the backbone that keeps MM upright. All IMHO as always, of course. It could at least tell them how to contact a mod if they get something phishy. Rays Fine Art wrote: Unfortunately this is reactionary. People have a strong emotional response to getting a message that says they have been discovered and unfortunately their brain shuts off. After sending a bunch of info, the euphoria passes and they realize it is too good to be true. Then they post here after some damage is done. It would be nice if recognizing fraud was covered in an economics course in high school. Fraud is pretty common on the Internet. You would think a site like this would have some type of blocker or that they would be able to weed out scams and more closely look at suspicious accounts. Hopefully, people report scams. They have similar scams on Craigslist that don't have anything to do with modeling, just any job you're looking for. They send you a check and tell you to deposit the money for some job then you cash it into an account, but the money's not really there, so it can overdraft your bank account. I think they try to prey on people that want a job or modeling gig the most. They think you'll be desperate enough to do it. Aug 31 14 03:09 pm Link samanthablack5422 wrote: Of course you did!! Once you replied by email to the first one, your email is now out there in "scammerland"! Aug 31 14 06:44 pm Link Ahhhhhhhhh Don't you just love the smell of fresh scam in the morning. Better than Napalm, actually. Alas, my personal preference is for burning gunpowder. To each his own. I believe these are variants of the Nigerian Scheme. Your scam detectors should be buzzing like crazy when you see one of these lush offers that require you to send them money. Glad you didn't fall for these to the point of actually sending them $$$. Welcome to the Mayhem. All in all, it's a pretty good place. Just learn to separate the wheat from the chaff and how to check out photogs that offer you work. Do your homework and it will be positive experience. Best. Aug 31 14 07:02 pm Link |
