So normally I either buy the best no matter the cost, or I buy the cheapest no matter how terrible it is.

I have four Pelican cases, and they are expensive.  I kind of want more, but they are expensive...

Amazon has suggest this: http://www.amazon.com/MTM-Forest-Green- … B003TNV46O

Has anyone actually tried these?  In general, ammo cans are nice, but these are made of plastic and not steel.  They are however, really cheap.  Cheap enough I could just buy one to try it and not care.  But I thought I'd ask first.

I wouldn't be using them for gear that needs padding.  These would be for tossing things into and not caring much if it gets dented.

For what I want, sort of.  The posting about how we store things made me think about how annoying my little rubbermaid tubs are to transport.  They are filled with little things, like lens wipes, batteries, spare cables, etc.  They don''t need a Pelican case.   Those cheap ammo boxes might be more pleasant to work with.  Being opaque, I''d need to label them though.  Not really a terrible problem.

I live in a military town so we have an asset many communities might not have as strongly but if there are any used military surplus stores I would check there. They tend to be overfilled with pelican or pelican styled cases for screaming cheap deals compared to many other sources. The sloppier the store the better the odds in my experience. don''t be afraid to haggle with those guys, if they have a lot of them you can take a zero off the backside of the price of new.

I bought a weather case that I loved, haven''t seen another one anywhere else yet though. It was tough as nails and lighter than pelican and also had a pressure valve. I go slumming for another one from time to time.

Thrift stores sometimes get SKB golf cases with rollers that I have gotten for 20 bucks that work fantastic for stands and PB umbrellas.

The surplus shop will also have ammo cases out their ears.
