Also, the first version of PS is 1.0 Mac on a 800k floppy disk (one i had was 0.97), least they could start off with that version, not Windows? As I remember it, noise was mainly film grain inherent in the scanned image, and compositing entailed matching grain between elements, which often involved adding grain to CG.
