Hello all!

I've just started portrait photography, so I'd really appreciate some constructive feedback on my images. Currently I have a fair amount of creative freedom with my model as we are both amateurs when it comes to fashion photography! She is trying to build a fashion blog, so the images aim to present the outfit she chooses as well as make it all look attractive. I do my best, but I am starting from the bottom of the learning curve! Here is my other portfolios http://www.boundless.photography/

So if possible, I'd like to hear what I could do to make the images stronger - more emotive, better lightning, improve the poses and so on!

Thank you all in advance,

Chris

Trees behind the models head are distracting, some of the branches look as if they could be growing out of the models head
Outdoor lighting in harsh sunlight will create harsh shadows, see shadow from models nose

This having been shot is shade has none of the harsh shadows
Using a reflector you could add light into the models eyes
This would be my favorite from portfolio

Notice in this photo how nice a background the blue sky makes
[Think reflector might work better than on camera flash]
Would prefer this with out the distracting post

I wish you well

Thanks for the reply Lee!

1) Yes, the first one you link is not my favourite either, for the points you raised. The trees are as out-of-focus as I could make them with the equipment I have, but even so, I could have minimised them growing out of her head! Noted smile

2) Thank you! I like this shot too. A reflector is at the top of my wish list... like this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00RLPBP6U?psc=1. I'm solo at the moment, so one I can hold and shoot with seems the only option.

3) We were lucky that day - lovely blue sky! As you can see from the other session - it was cold and grey, which provided less harsh light, but meant I had to use less natural backdrops!

Thanks again for your thoughts. Much appreciated!

Chris
