Hi, Carmen -- you are beautiful with a lovely figure. Your port is kind of all over the map in both subject matter and quality, though. As an art model, based on the drawings of you, you obviously know how to hold yourself. It would be great to see that in photos, though, rather than the drawings.

What it really comes down to is, what do you want to shoot more of? The same way as a designer you wouldn't put all your designs in your portfolio, only what you want to do more of, that's how you should treat your modeling portfolio.

This is not to say you should limit yourself to one or two things -- but make sure that you have great photos of the things you want to do more of. The bodyscape shot is excellent. Most of the other black-background shots are lesser quality -- the lighting doesn't show you off well. The implied nude with your legs crossed is a nice pose -- I just wish the photo showed you off better.

The beauty headshot is good, but there's something just a little tentative about your connection with the camera, as if you weren't completely comfortable. Your expression in the wine shot is more natural.

Hope this helps!

Welcome to Canada and MM!!

Your portfolio is off to a good start.

I'll give a few general tips.

Always try to shoot with the best photographers that you can.
Always cull out the poorest of your images.
One look - one image.

This image here:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/160305/13/56db566919945_m.jpg
by crossing your legs toward the camera, the near leg looks bigger than it really is, try to remember to cross your legs away from the camera.
Secondly, we prefer to see the side of the hand, not the whole back of a hand. It might feel weird to hold your hand a certain way, but it looks much better.

Best of luck!!

Definitely above average for starting out. As stated before, your port seems a little all over the place. I would start by removing all the paintings, it's great that you've got them, but they do more for the painter's port than they do for you. I don't mind them, they just don't make me want to hire you (which is the point of a port, no?).

I would say of all the shots, you look most comfortable with the nudes, I don't see nearly as much awkwardness in those as I do in some of the others. I like the star wars shot too, but crop tighter, get the jeans out of it, never seen a trooper wearing jeans. smile

That's what I see, hope that helps.

First at all Thank You Dave! Your Critic is very enriching.

I will double check my Port. To be honest the idea was to show "diversity"; but now I get it, the message was wrong send it.

Do you mind if I back with you for another review after modify the portfolio?

Thanks again,
Carmen

Thank you Blimey! Always is appreciated a very "warming" canadian welcome wink (Def. NOT the same weather like in Mexico!)

You are right about the pose, not as excuse but, maybe is the art model background. I will have this in mind for the next shooting. Thanks to make me see the mistake.

Good critics (like yours) helps to improve,
Carmen

Of course it helps DespayreFX!

You got me, yes, as art model I'm more use-to Nude than the other genres. But I really like to improve in Fashion, a long way... Cosplay is just for having fun! tongue

Thank you again,

Believe me, I have the same issue -- there are too many different things I like to shoot.

Please do get in touch if you want another look after you refine your port.

I know! But OK, I guess with the time I will define better my style.

Port modified, may I have your opinion again?

Thanks in advance,

Hire a photographer, and work harder.  You're trying but it's *not* enough.

Hi Carmen,

You're lovely, but some of the images do little or nothing for you and don't belong in a model's portfolio.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/40359783 18+
A clever shot for the photographer, but you're totally obscured. That could be practically any model under that tulle.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/40245575 18+
Too dark and too obscure. A sliver of your face and a peek at a nipple. It's not enough to show you off.

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/40245575
It's essentially a shot of your arm. The stormtrooper helmet and Star Wars blaster don't mix well with your tee-shirt. The image does nothing for you.

You do have some images that serve you very well.
https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/40245539 Good headshot, though I'm not crazy about that color of lipstick on you.
https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/40245564 18+ My favorite. Love your pose and expression.
https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/40322136 18+ A "good sport" shot (it looks cold!) and love the expression.
https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/40342064 18+ Also a favorite. Knockout bodyscape.
https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/40359810 18+ Image is way too dark, but you're beautiful in it. Maybe you could ask the photographer to kick up the exposure a bit.

This for me is the strongest image in your portfolio
How ever I would like to see the hair under better control
Add dynamics, rotate models right shoulder toward camera and lower it, raise chin slightly, have your eyes look more where your nose is pointed, this will add white to both sides of your eyes

You have a great look
I wish you well

This kind of critiques are really helpful; some times we need another point of view to notice our weak points. I will continue working to improve my Portfolio.

Thanks again,

Someone mentioned hands above.

This is one of the better hand posing guides I've found on the web.  I often refer to it for a refresher.

Your revised port is definitely a step in the right direction. Now I would just weed out the weaker shots. A general approach is to only show one shot from each look you do, two at the most. For the snow nudes, this to me is your best image:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 2b9b_m.jpg 18+

Most of the others don't add anything, EXCEPT the bottom image of this diptych:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 3d46_m.jpg 18+

I would cut the weaker ones and just do the bottom half of the one linked above. It's good enough on its own.

The two bodyscapes are different enough that you could keep them both.

People here often double or triple-up images in order to try to get around the 15-image limit, but the net result is often that it doesn't showcase either image well. It can work if it's a strong series, but more often I think it just weakens the stronger of the two (or three or four) images. Certainly fine to have fewer than the 15 you're allotted -- just focus on your best work so far.

This one might have been fun to do, but it doesn't show you off as a model very much -- it's more for a photographer's portfolio than a model's:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 0893_m.jpg 18+

Between the three portraits reposing in a room (two nudes and one clothed), this to me is the strongest:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … e5ea_m.jpg 18+
I would cut the other two -- the only different thing the clothed one says is your hair color.

This one is ok for now:
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/160322/16/56f1d9e835c16_m.jpg
But if you want to do more commercial kinds of jobs, you'll need more commercial-looking images in your port.

I would stick the cosplay and drawing last if you feel like you really don't want to drop them. I didn't really agree with the suggestion to crop out the pants on the cosplay image -- the pants added more to the incongruity. I just think the image doesn't achieve what you might have been hoping for.

OK, then I will work on new commercial photos.
