The AP is reporting that Gene Wilder has died. He was 83 years old. He starred in some of my favorite movies including Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and of course Willy Wonka.

Fondly remembered for many roles, but for me it's this...

Aw... damn.  I loved Gene Wilder, especially his classic work with Mel Brooks in The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein...  and his teaming with Richard Pryor in Silver Streak.  Rest easy, Gene.

Good grief, I forgot to mention Willy Wonka...

I read that he connected with Mel Brooks after he was "miscast" in a play starring Mel's wife Anne Bancroft. They ended up creating so many comedy classics that are completely and utterly non-PC.

Blazing Saddles is perhaps my favorite movie of all time but I can't think of one movie I didn't enjoy that featured the great talent that was Gene Wilder.  Young Frankenstein.  "That's Franken-STEEN!" ,The Producers, The Silver Streak, the list goes on.

Wish we still had talent like that in Hollywood.

Another great one rides off into the sunset.

Roll credits.  sad

RIP Gene,

you were able to get some of Mel Brooks' best work onto film,
not many could be the comic foil to Richard Pryor and Marty Feldman.

Young Frankenstein has given me countless hours of laughter.

One of the greats. RIP Gene, the original and only true Willy Wonka.

Thanks for that chuckle this morning.  smile

"Well, it got so that every piss-ant prairie punk who thought he could shoot a gun would ride into town to try out the Waco Kid. I must have killed more men than Cecil B. DeMille. It got pretty gritty. I started to hear the word "draw" in my sleep. Then one day, I was just walking down the street when I heard a voice behind me say, "Reach for it, mister!" I spun around... and there I was, face to face with a six-year old kid. Well, I just threw my guns down and walked away. Little bastard shot me in the ass!  So I limped to the nearest saloon, crawled inside a whiskey bottle... and I've been there ever since."
