Friend who is a low level hobbyist loves her Sony NEX-7, but is currently having issues that Sony cannot solve, so she is looking to move on.
She does not need something technically better, except for faster focus, but a biggie is something that feels like the NEX-7. If it does not feel good in her hands she will not use it.
She is aware that at a reasonable price she will have make a compromise.

So is anybody aware of, or using a camera that has newer tech. but feels like the NEX 7. Canon is preferred as she has several good lens from her Canon film camera days. She mainly uses the camera on trips, so light is good.

Thanks

The new crop sensor A cameras have one fewer control dial ... But on the bright side, customization is improved, and iso is no longer permanently mapped  to the rear dial. The FF models are very similar, aside from more Custom buttons.

All will have much better AF. I loved my NEX-7, but the AF was already bad when it came out.

Try out the a6000, a6300, a6500.  The a6300 and a6500 supposedly better AF than the a6000.

I would advise her to look at the Fuji line!!! And with an adaptor she can use some of her Canon lenses.

If I'm honest, I do like Fujis quite a bit more than my Sony, video and wi-fi aside. If Fuji has an FF model when I buy my next camera, I may switch.

Then again ... Fujis are designed for hipsters and old guys that prefer dials to menus. I like it more, but it's not an NEX - and for most people, being comfortable with the gear should be #1. How many people buy stick shifts, even when they know paddle shifters are better?

Obviously this discussion will be moot and unproductive. No one can recommend feel. She needs to visit stores and handle the merch but you're a smart guy. You knew that. Does she have petite hands or man hands, does she have nails or cut close. Soooooo many variables go into the feel, that words on a screen are obviously an exercise in futility.

I get your point, but not moot.

Yes, ultimately she has to go and try.

But knowing she likes the feel of the NEX7 tells you a lot of what is needed to reference a certain size and type that she should look at.
The fact that she loves the feel of the NEX already tells you she has small hands.

If I say that I love the feel of my Ninon D5 (if I had one), but I am looking for something else with a similar feel, to recommend a NEX 7 would be a waste of effort.

I have very large hands(for someone with a white collar job), and I liked the size of the NEX. Granted, I liked it more after I got an L plate, but I still prefer it to larger cameras.

Reminds me of when I went shopping for my first real car; my dad's always been a car guy, and I had been driving a heap for a few years, so I had a little knowledge. My folks had lots of VWs(Mom still does), so I tested a used Golf. It had some options, low mileage, great condition, and a good price.

I didn't buy it. Objectively I knew I was a better deal than what I bought, but the whole test drive I felt like I was in my Mother's stolen car - I just wasn't comfortable in it.

Now if it was a steal, then I'd deal with feeling awkward - the same way that I deal with Sony's(to me) inferior control scheme vs. the Fujis because the picture and video quality are so much better, and the in-body stabilizer is a big deal with old lenses.

What sort of  "issues that Sony cannot solve" ?
A fundamental design problem or a bad unit?
If it's a bad unit just replace the body.     (rather than switching systems)

used body w 90 day warranty                     (4,600 shutter count - auction 3 - days left)

old Canon FD mount lenses (film days) will be manual use on new bodies regardless,  even on a new Canon
