you missed it by one year, dummies!  lol godzilla ended up being an anemic newt, but this winter (so far) is soaking wet. the entire state, north of the bay area, is officially out of drought status.

The rain is very very welcome, we were parched. Most of the reservoirs have more water than they have had in years.

The experts say central  Calif. needs about 4 or 5 years like this to refill the underground aquafer that is so important to agriculture. But every drop of rain helps.

now, if SoCal can get some nice slow soaking storms- they can catch up a bit too.

more mountain snow and a slow melt would be WONDERFUL...

I'm in SV, and it seems fine. You can do most things, just a small gentle rain here and there. Just drive carefully.

Freeways are trickier, some can make you hydroplane in some spots hmm

I was in Santa Rosa last weekend and that was a bit more complicated, you did need a dinghy for some parts ...

i just drove 152 last week (and will do so again next week). the san luis was still WAY low when i went up last week, but something tells me that it will have some mas agua in it next week. i'm sure it won't be as full as i've seen it before, where the overflow pockets north of the 152 are filled, but i'll take a mental note of how much it's level has gone up. from a looksee while driving, i could see it was about fifteen or twenty feet--or so--shy of standard capacity.

i wish i had time to drive up 395 tonight, while there is a full moon. the sierras, when they are covered in snow, are a marvel to behold, especially when bathed in moonlight. but it's probably snowing again up there right now, so i guess i'm not missing anything. smile

I was out actually ditching runoff for the first time in 6 years today.

However! - the soil out here has been so parched over 5 years that it has become almost hydrophobic - I dug down in the field - and under 8-10 inches of mud and slop - - Dry dusty earth......  It's like trying to sprinkle water on a pile of flour..

It will take WEEKS of slow rain to get water to percolate down into the deeper levels of the soils here..

We may have poppies here for the first time in 5 years - So that's swell.

I've been in Mammoth for the last 8 days right in the heart of the storm. Incredibly impressive amount of snow has fallen and it's been a lot of fun and a lot of work keeping the deck clear. Thursday was incredible with about 20" of light powder falling with zero wind -  very rare for Mammoth! This weekend is a zoo with record number of people on the mountain. Good for the town, great for the ski resort, and definitely good for everyone in California that uses water. Another series of storms should drop several feet of snow starting on Thursday and more rain and snow in SoCal the following week. Hopefully the rest of the state will be officially out of drought soon too.

i was up north the last few days. it really didn't start raining until today, but it was coming down pretty good. and it rained all the way from cupertino until san fernando. then it started again when i got to the 710 fwy. it's going to be a wet weekend for most of the state.

and the san luis reservoir has definitely gotten a lot more agua, especially since last year. even in the last month you can see a difference in the level. there's a flood plain on the west side of it (before getting to gilroy) that is completely filled up. i haven't see that much water there in years.
