Hello there,
i've been researching for my monitor upgrade for a few days, digging out most of reviews available, but i think i should find the answer here.
I'm currently using a Dell U2312hm, now i'm ready to spend a 500usd for a new one. After doing research, i'm thinking about 2 options: The 2013 Dell U2413 (wide gamut) or the new U2717D (standard gamut) for roughly same price (where i live). things i have to take into consideration between an 2013 24 inch vs recent 27 inch are:
- I"m a photographer and most of my works for now are for online publishing.
- I'm in a place where, when i make a print, i cant ask for the printing house's profile (they wouldnt give me), when i ask what color profile should i use in my final files, they said: Just use sRGB.
- Would wide gamut (adobe RGB) will make my color work better than a standard sRGB monitor? I have to sacrifice both screen size and resolution (FHD vs 2K)
and, ofc, any other recommendations for my 500 budget?
Many thanks
Chester

Profiling a print press is very time consuming and requires expensive hardware. They probably don't profile theirs, hence the answer.

The gamut is only one parameter of a monitor. Of course wider gamut is better but you must also take into account the other factors: can the monitor hardware be calibrated, is it stable, in what ranges etc. There are wide gamut monitors that are not suitable for professional (color accurate) use.

and, ofc, any other recommendations for my 500 budget?

Spending this amount just to add a few inches to your desktop will not make your work better color-wise (as it seems that is what you are asking for). It may be more relaxing for your eyes though. But if you want to improve the color accuracy aspect better save more money and buy a professional class monitor when you can afford it.

Thanks Anchev,
for my current need, i'll just get a new 27inch 2k monitor then, enough for sRGB and more working space

2000 hours is very little, nothing to worry about that.
As an example HP rates the "half-life" of the Z24i to 30.000 minimum http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/getpdf.aspx/c04317327.pdf

From the above link the U3014 seems to have less problems...
