Many scams can be avoided if you remember this: NEVER respond to an offer which asks you to send payment via Western Union. Unlike PayPal, credit cards, and other money transfer and financial services, you don't have redress, when you deal with 'crook-friendly' WU. (Note that many 'Nigerian Scams' demand payment via WU)

And in related breaking news, Western Union has been fined $586 MILLION (yes, more than half a Billion bucks) for wide-ranging and pervasive criminality and fraud. Some money will be refunded to victims.
