I have tried to figure this out several times.   I believe it is an insulation panel with foil on one side.  The question I have is the pattern.  I have shot the panel and tried working on it in photoshop and not quite the results I am looking for.  Does anyone have an idea?  The photographer hasn't been on MM for a year or so.

Could be a shower curtain or drapes. Of course it's easy enough to mask out the model in post and add any background you want.

I have used those panels in the past and you are right, they are insulation sheets. I found them good for reflectors as well as backdrops. I am not sure what your question is though.  The texture of the foil is not very even and depending on the lighting of it, will show more or less texture. Also the distance behind the model has an effect. They are fun to use and were quite cheap - but that was 15 years ago or so.

Does any of this address your concerns?

I have used SilveRboard panels with the results you are looking for. I suppose there are different brands of panels that have a different texture on the surface. You can shop around. The effect is not hard to get. However, the look is a bit dated.

Thanks guys.  I thought it was the insulation panels.  Didn't think of the different brands.  Lowes and HD had the same ones though that was 5 or more years ago.

I happen to be looking for a similar silver-y backdrop.

The first one is the closest.  I am going  for a more dimpled look.

I bought a roll of very flexible insulation at Home depot. Cut it in half length wise to give me two pieces approx 4 ft wide and about 13 feet long. Glued them together side by side, and made a three inch pocket on the end for hanging from my backdrop stand.

If the model is going to stand on it, you need some clear plexiglass or it will show every little indentation. Rolls up for relatively easy storage.
