About Me

I grew up 2 hours away from New Delhi, India in a business-class family with strong socially conservative beliefs.  Modeling was obviously never an option for me.  I always did want to try it, nurtured the idea at the back of my mind and finally got the opportunity to pursue it when I got to the US.

I started out answering a radio advertisement for models.  The ad promised an open shot with known casting directors if you were selected.  As it turned out, I was one of three selected.  The next step however, was acting and modeling classes, photo shoots and auditions, but there was a price, appox. USD 2000.  This was a modeling school, it seemed.  I paid.  In the end, it was a waste of time and money because nothing useful came out of their auditions/open calls.  I learnt a valuable lesson; never pay anything for modeling.

After that, I researched, made calls, looked up modeling agencies and photographers, and got some photo shoots done.  My payment were pictures they took that I built my portfolio with.  I then mailed compcards to various modeling agencies.  This lead to a few interesting shoots through agencies with clients such as the Cisco, Merrill Lynch, World Space, Marriott Hotel group, University of Maryland, etc.  Some of my 'stock' photographs even got picked up by Newspapers and other publications in India.

Looking ahead, I intend to continue working in print modeling with both agencies and individual photographers.  I've already had the pleasure of working with some accomplished photographers in DC area. Its been a year and a half for me in the Washington DC metro area, and things seem to be coming along faster now.  There is a lack of Indian faces in the US modeling market, I would like to change that, especially given that India seems to be on the rise globally.  India's visibility in the United States increases almost daily, more Indian faces in print advertisements will, I believe, strike a chord with consumers.  I dream that one day my face is synonymous with India, in photographs, over here.  With hard work and support from my friends, I hope to get there.
