So, i need to take my kit on an airplane to FLA (i think there was a similar post but i can't find it, although i do have a specific concern here). I keep my pigments (including lots of white looking iridescent ones) in small ziploc baggies, as this is clean, saves space, and works well for me. I plan on bringing most of the contents of my kit as a carry on, as the last time i flew they were not gentle with my checked belongings, and i want to make sure things stay clean. I'm sure you can imagine what this might look like in an x-ray machine or to someone searching my bags. Is there anything i should do differently, anyone have any advice or experiences that might help me or at least make me less nervous about having my precious pigments confiscated?

Thank you!

If possible escort your bags through security. Another thing that has helped me is a list of the contents of my bag. It does not have to be TOTALLY accurate, but will help the security folks determine what sort of person they are dealing with. Another thing that helped me was keeping business cards and photos in my bag, which made it REALLY obvious that I am in the business and not just a strange person carrying all kinds of powders.

If they are MAC pigments you could just leave them at home?! (J/K I couldnt resist...)

Rich - What excellent ideas, i did not think to do that, i will gather some pictures and label the baggies, and i might not have thought to show them my business card; silly, but true. Many thanks, as usual.

UKMakeupArtist - Hehe, i can't blame you. No i am speaking of real pigments that i've spent lots of time and effort sourcing, i'm very particular about them, which is why i'm so concerned :}

I was really worried about this for a shoot I had outside of the US- so I brought along catologued reciepts as well. Turned out I didn't need them. Business cards and an air of professionalism got me through without a hitch. Also turned out I didn't need any of my loose pigments- so next time I'm going to cut back on my full kit for major travel. I had my kit mailed to me recently and am worried about what the USPS will do to it- cross your fingers for me.
