J O H N A L L A N wrote: Ok - thanks. Hi John, Your work is awesome. Clear direction, clean execution. I can see the technical improvement with every new picture. However your earlier work seems more artistically adventurous. I advise to you to find the marriage between technicality and artistry. Summary of all the good stuff: - Good production. Models are gorgeous. Make-up, styling are on point. - You know how to capture model's expressions and poses very well. - Good lighting. - Great retouch work. Not overdone. Things you can improve on: Some of the retouched work is not consistent (retouched face vs lazier body retouching). This is probably not an issue for clients, but as a fellow photographer/retoucher it is a bit distracting. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35482084 Smooth face, sharp arm hair https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/32438705 Goosebumps on the back https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/32683730 Stomach and legs doesn't have the same warm honey color like the rest. Clean up your portfolio and get rid of weak content https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/19141107 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/28810158 I am curious what direction you will take in the future. But for now, if I was a client, I'm sold. That's probably your goal, so good job. Good luck!

Tianxiao Zhang wrote: Sure, let me know what you think please! tianxiaozhangphoto.com Hi Tianxiao, Stunning portfolio. Your work is technically, stylistically and artistically on point. Looking at your web portfolio, I see a slight overuse of the 'flash look'. You could showcase photos with other lighting set ups as well. This is gorgeous: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/34215561 Production quality is perfect - models, make-up, styling are top notch. My critique is short as I have not much to critique To sum it up, it is impressive to see how you experiment and challenge yourself as a photographer, and you do execute everything perfectly. I love the adventurous spirit of your work. Good luck!

Marin Photography NYC wrote: Go for it. Hi, Your portfolio is good. However there are some technical issues that prevent it from becoming great. Stuff you can improve on: 1) Your lighting techniques in Black and White work seems all over the place. Experimenting with lights to create mood/style is fine, but an image must maintain pleasing aesthetics. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35573818 Overexposed hair, right face. Shadow in the background. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35184670 Bottom left underexposed. If the whole bottom was darker, that would be fine. 2) Retouch is not the perfect yet. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36045104 Skin texture is too smooth, doesn't appear natural. Too much burning (dodge and burn) on the hollows of the cheeks, not enough transition. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36328650 Skin texture is still grainy with visible pores on the forehead. Better frequency separation technique will help? 3) You mix to types: portraits of androgynous, high fashion agency models and portraits of bombshells in sexy lingerie. One more likely to sell to women, the other for men. It could be a downfall for your business as the audience is so much about following brands identity now. The good stuff: 1) Your color work is strong. Technically stronger than BW. This is an example of a well-executed lighting set-up while maintaning a personal style: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36372108 2) I like the fact that you don't conform to latest magazine trends or some hipster techniques. We have bazillions photographers doing that already and it is kind of boring. So keep going your way. 3) Your profile pictures is your strongest image. Well done. I wish you good luck!

Sarah Lynn Modeling wrote: I liked your page and photos Hi Sarah, You have a lovely symmetrical face and a nice healthy figure. You are a good model. However, your portfolio is weak and needs some major improvements. The amount of images in your portfolio is distracting. 70% of it is not good. You will not win clients this way. Get rid of content that have outdated styling, amateur photography quality, unflattering expression and pose. Some examples: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/22992149 Bad quality. Blurry face, unflattering pose. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/30684961 Outdated styling. Make-up and hair looks unnatural. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31287507 Looks like cheap production. Bad photography. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35972092 Good photography but expression/pose looks unflattering. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/30685044 The same. Now the strong images: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/34204609 Headshot is always easy on the eye. Hair, make-up, styling looks stunning on you. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35906688 You look sexy, strong eyes, good pose. It showcases your versatility. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35882404 Lovely expression. Image looks artistic. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/34204595 You can leave good print work like this. So again, good model but less is more. Quality over quantity. Good luck!

SavageBeautyPhotography wrote: HI Vantran If you could have a look at my portfolio: https://www.modelmayhem.com/839480 I value your comments Hi SavageBeautyPhotography, What a fun portfolio. You have style, which is refreshing to see in the business. Over all, technicality is good, good composition and lighting. Artistic department - excellent. You have a good amount of different concept, all executed very well. There are two images that didn’t come so well together: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35369070 The slick back hair and the young model screams high-fashion which contradict with the antique/vintage filter. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35916258 Model's expression is not the strongest. She is sort of this sexy modern type, which doesn’t match the vintage vision. Some of your strongest work. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/p … 1#36496701 Beautiful, intriguing, looks like analog work https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36326662 Bold and stylish, concept executed well https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36433979 Soft, beautiful. Wardrobe, makeup, lighting, editing came together. Wonderful work. Good luck!

Joseph William wrote: Take a look Hi Joseph Good portfolio. You have experience, it shows in your technique. Lighting is always proper, good compositions. Post-production is fine too. I think your work is good enough to keep you in the business. The biggest issue I have with your work is, some of the images are eye catching and some are boring: + https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36495661 Great lighting, composition, retouch. Model and wardrobe superb. The revealing V is very smart, draws the light and the eyes in. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35970518 Superb choice of model, very delicate retouch. - https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/32640598 Too much color correction. It is not fashion, not commercial, not beauty… https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35777649 Depth of field is not quite right. Parts of her hair is blurry, one eye is blurry, top of the head too sharp. Maybe go for a fully retouched look here to make it stand out more? To sum it up, you are technically good, you always executed well. Your portfolio needs more focus and a little bit of spice. That's all. Good luck!

Images by MR wrote: Yes plz.. Hi Images by MR, Your portfolio is fine. It is not brilliant yet. I'll give you some constructive points. Some of your earlier work is actually brilliant. Nice play with light, good composition, good artistry. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/17482196 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36270586 You have an eye for composition, kind of soft and subtle and pleasant to the eye. Production is good, models, hair, make-up, wardrobe are fine. The biggest issue is the flat lighting. I advise you to improve on this because it will completely transform your work, which already has great potentials. Examples: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/33881889 Flat lighting. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36451947 Flat lighting. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/33047408 Backlight is good. Try to use a reflector to catch some highlights. Examples of good lighting https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/17482196 Excellent use of hard light. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36450532 Half open space helps. I would clean up one image. It is not properly focused. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/32941537 These are strong, these are the examples you should follow https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/17482196 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36270586 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36352837 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/34411204 So continue to improve, you have good potential already. Good luck! Thanks for the feedback The ones you commented on with the flat lighting or out of focus had filters added in post for a softer look, which I guess failed. I'll keep working on my weak points. Marcus.

MVK Photography wrote: I could used some constructive critique, thanks! Hi MVK Photography, Your portfolio is strong. Clear focus, solid execution. Strong points: - Quality production - models, hair, make-up, wardrobe. - Good execution of newest trends in retouching. - Technically solid. Nice play with lighting, especially while shooting in such bright light, open space conditions. Some stuff to consider: - Post-production is the first thing hitting my senses, your photography comes second. Images look strongly retouched. I see a lot of color correction, toning. Model's skin missing some reasonable amount of texture. I understand that this is a issue of the industry, not yours. - A bit of unpredictability is good. These give your portfolio a nice balance: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/27381386 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35035861 To sum it up, you are obviously very talented. It's hard to be in the business, while having a tasteful portfolio and please every group of people. Keep going and good luck!

Azlyn wrote: I would greatly appreciate a critique. Hi Azlyn, You have great potential for modelling. You need to expand your portfolio more, but that will come with time. Strong points - You have a lovely symmetrical face. A lot of potential there. - You have a good looking figure. Your poses look natural. Some stuff to work on: - Study your face, understand what look good on you. Your eyes are missing a spark. The dolly eyes on every shot doesn't bring you much diversity. - I suggest you to remove this one https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36343701 The expression makes you look old. To sum it up, great model, great portfolio. You just need more time to make your portfolio even stronger. Good luck!

Jason Grubbs wrote: Done liking photos on your FB page!. I'd love a critique! Hi Jason, You are a newbie, so let's go straight to the point. Good stuff: - Your about me section is good....short, informative, casual. Keep it. - Last two photos are fine for the beginning. Stuff to improve: - All the low quality selfies need to go. They make your profile look unprofessional and make you look rather self obsessed. A beginner model only needs few snapshots, keep them clean like this: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K1-Zt2apqhk/U … pshots.jpg - Try to get some head shots professionally done, that's the minimum for actors. So keep building your portfolio. Avoid making mistakes along the way and you should be fine. I see potential for acting. As a model, there are much stronger competition around. Good luck!
