Ok, since Sarah's on the list now...

Both Friday entries were imaginative & well posed.  I liked the way Sarah looked a little better than Bellinger's model but ultimately it came down to what I felt was poor & exceptionally flat lighting in Sarah's entry.

Had it been better lit I would've given the vote to it.

Hearing that explanation (lighting), I'd be very very interested to hear what your reason for choosing the one you did to break Saturday nights tie between Bobby G and Studio CMC.

Interest level.  Bobby's was well composed and he did a nice job mirroring the body shape in the wrinkles of the cloth but it was a limited & static bodyscape in a low tonal range (I've said before I prefer some contrast in B&Ws and Bobby's is sort of all soft grey).

Normally hotspots like Studio CMC left bug me but in this case they worked with the "marble" feeling Nicole was supposed to have, and it was a more engaging & imaginative composition.

Usually if someone's got an overly clunky comp vs. one that's clean & simple I'll take the clean & simple one.
In a case like this of 2 well done pieces I'll go for the one that piques more interest.

When I looked at both, I saw Bobby G's as being pure quality, lighting, composition, everything about it screamed class.  He took an in your face subject matter and made it tastefull and beautifull.  (I clicked on it more than once, LoL, so apparently it held some interest).  Lots of people do bodyscaping, not everyone does it well.  Bobby did.

When I looked at CMC's I saw a cheap gimmick that we all have thought of but figured it'd be too cheesy to do.  On top of that the lighting was sloppy at best.  That isn't a hot spot, that's a whole chest and shoulders blown out beyond recognition.  Half her body is gone.  I did like the choice of a blue cast, but other than that I just thought it was just another picture.  Obviously it held enough people's interest to win, and congratulations to him, but I would've chosen differently.

Not complaining about your choice James, it just immediately came to mind when you mentioned lighting being your reason for picking Friday's winner.  smile

Flat lighting? I'm looking at both images, and both have the almost exact same lighting. The shadows are a little different, but thats due to body type and angle.

This is exceptionally flat lighting, no definition, no nothing. https://www.modelmayhem.com/pic.php?pic … id=5025698
My image is not flat lighting, it's light specifically working with the models body to bring out her shape.

My main beef is, Bellinger has won this contest like 9 times already. If the people who are voting, like my image as much as Bellinger's, why not just say, ok, i'll give the new girl one this time, instead of building up Bellinger ego some more. Or EVEN BETTER have a tie! We had a tie, why not keep it that way?? We both won, plain as day, why take that away from someone?

You are obviously favouring Bellinger, i'm guessing since he using the forum so much, if you wern't you could have giving me an actuial good reason for my photos losing. You can say you don't like it, but you can't say it's 'exceptionally flat' lighting when it's obviously not.

I gotta say I will never post anything on this contest again. What is the point of a contest when it comes down to one person deciding who wins.

Good question.  I see that the original POD contestthread has been restarted and at the sec is at 25 posts, so maybe the 18+ also got too big and James will be having to restart the thread (soon to be version 6???).

I'm sorry you feel that way.  I wasn't favoring Bellinger, new people win the contest all the time including tie breakers.

The reasons we break ties have been discussed, in brief we have ties on a regular basis & people complained about them PLUS we often have ties of 5 or more winners & that creates a mess so I reserve my vote & pick the one I feel is stronger.
Had I been voting normally I wouldn't have chosen your image.

I felt it was technically lacking in comparison.

Actually......no.......Bondage and Glamour still aren't permitted to win, we've got players counting votes and waiting till closing time to vote based on that vote count, and multitudes of other problems.........but this is a huge step in the right direction!

I stand corrected.  Carry on everybody, there is no bias against these 2 genre's in the contest.   tongue

James, I understand they CAN win, but I also understand that they most likely WON'T win because of the makeup of the regular players who by majority control the voting in the contest as it is now.  They are Fineart guys and gals who won't even consider a bondage or Glamour shot for their vote no matter how well done the image is.

They aren't doing anything wrong, they are simply voting for what they like.  But with more players comes more diversity and less snubbing.  It can only be a good thing.

Hopefully being stickied at the top will bring that diversity.  smile

If anything I'd imagine having a larger group would HURT bondage shots' chances of winning.
It'd probably help with glamour tho.

Also, as opposed to the No Bumping rule as I was in the regular PotD thread....I'm for it in the 18+ thread.

In the other thread you can see the entries, so images being voted on were being seen more and it leads to runaway victories when the ones being voted on are repeated often.

With the 18+ thread, the entries aren't seen, so that "extra advertising" isn't as much a factor.  No Bumping should make the thread less of a cluster fuck and easier to navigate.

Bumps have been one of the top 3 complaints about the thread.  We'll see if entries that're one page back are getting ignored... notice I put a link in to where a given day starts in the first post.

Since one of the reasons for bumping was keeping the thread visible we'll try it without.

Maybe, maybe not on the bondage thing.  I think more people means more openmindedness, but I could be wrong.  Right now the competition is terribly pigeon holed though.  There is no chance my ranting and raving about it is going to convince the regulars in the thread now to vote for something they don't like....as it shouldn't... so the only chance is to bring more voters in.

I do agree though, Glamour has a much better chance of being helped.

You know how pic of the day always does a collage of the pictures at a certain point in the day?  Maybe we could do the same thing on our main thread, but instead of a collage of pictures, it could be a post with all of the links that have been posted so far.  Just the links, not the names of the posters persay.  That way people could easily look at the list to see the entries, and if any posts are posted after that it would be easy to telling since it wouldn't be mixed in with people bumping their submissions?

Are you willing to volunteer to take on the responsibility of staging that every day at approximately the same time?

It seems to me that the no bump concept is cool, now that we are locked near the top. However people will simply post later in the day, and if they miss the 11:00 EST window (Bumping, is a reason to return to the thread) the loss of votes will happen.

But that's just my take on it. We shall see what happens.

...while I agree on the No Bumping "cluster fuck" and ease of navigation comment, the collage of entries by links would be a "must have"  - as is the case in the POD.

Everyday is what it takes with these contests.  That's why everybody doesn't have one.  smile

I still think it's much easier to open all the images in new tabs all at once, then go through them and choose from the tabs.  It's too much trouble to keep hitting the back button, even if the links were all in one post.  smile

Well, turns out a couple of us do read okay, despite my ever-present ADD ,
as the post by James read AUGUST 29  , not August 28 , for the new and not necessarilly improved , NO Bump ruling.
Thank you James for the admission of early daytime mixup at like 2:00am in the morning of the date that should have been effective tooday the 28th.

I think we are all okay now.

Oh, James, please add dgold to the " DT LIST" (dgold2 is already added some time ago).

Seems to be a lot more entries than when I watching this before..

Hopefully the no bump thing will work out.

As for waiting to vote, I thin down my choices when I have time during the day, and then vote later to see if anything comes in that I really like.  Do you think people really vote on what others have voted for?  I think of the times I've voted it's only been for the winner once! Show what I know I guess.
