Havent seen it in the other threads & have a specific question, so sorry if its been asked before my time big_smile

When playing around with products on my own face i have put some bold metallic pigments on my lips, but when i go to add a clear gloss on top it starts to take some of the pigment off, or just takes away from the boldness of the colour.
Any suggestions?
Am sure some of you have done it, so just wondering what stages you took to keep it all in place really.

I know there is lipstick seal.
Would this also work too cause is a different texture to normal lipstick?
Have never tried putting gloss over usually, i guess its trial & error time really.
I just want a high gloss look with really bold colour, teeny bit of glitter too maybe, but have to watch how it photographs too obviously.
Hope this makes some sense, lol

Thanks for any tips in advance x

Typically I mix the pigments or shimmers into the gloss first, which works great. Get a good clear, and mix away. This how I do the lips more often than not when I'm being very specific about the color...which is most of the time. big_smile That's how I did the lips in this picture - it's our Loose Colours in Cherry Bomb and Iced mixed into a clear gloss, applied directly to the lips, straight no chaser. wink

try using a glossy lip balm on top instead of gloss. glosses have a type of oil in them that breaks down powder/color pigments. try a gel-based balm and place it on instead of brushing in over. if you set, it doesn't move much of what's underneath. hope that helps!

Patting the gloss on top instead of brushing it on works well also.

But mixing the pigment with gloss before putting it on, like eveyone else said is the best way to do it.

Thanks...i did try the patting it on, but it seemed to darken the color a wee bit.
Maybe was the gloss.
Will get mixing & see what happens.
Will be using this on a model at the weekend so fingers crossed it looks how i want it.

In this photo I used a metalic-ish eye color (Don't remember the brand, it was a dual palette from Wal-Mart) in with some Maybelline (sp) clear gloss. Worked really well.

yeah, i love this. my La Femme blushes are some of my fav lipsticks. I just pat the dry color on with a brush and then use just a lttle gloss on top. maybe those are just easier because the pigment is so dense.

I dip my brush in a little water first then dip it in the pigment then spead it on the lips then I put the gloss on top. Sorry for all the thens..lol  I use different lipsticks as a base to play with the color.

That's what i was doing with my pigments, but it still screwed it up when i added the gloss.
Think the mixing may help me first.
