Traveling with a Hensel Porty Premium
I'm going to be traveling and want to take my porty with me on the airplane. What travel cases do you use? Do you check them or have you ever taken it on the plane with you? Thanks. Mar 15 08 08:27 am Link I've flown my lights in a Pelican case several times. The "throwers" haven't been able to damage the lights yet. The pelican cases are tough bastards, and if you carefully fit the foam around your equipment, they'd just about have to roll the plane over it to do any real damage. Get insurance on your stuff anyway though. Mar 15 08 08:32 am Link No problems staying within the weight limit? I'm using a Pelican 1620, which I think is almost 20 lbs by itself. I can carry two AB lights plus the AB ringlight in it with a bunch of accessories and it's right around 47-48 lbs. So it works fine and I don't end up paying the overweight charges. Mar 15 08 01:11 pm Link Just looked at the Porty: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/2 … 0_Kit.html They've got the weight at 39lbs, but again that might be the shipping weight. OOF! Mar 15 08 01:16 pm Link Well the power pack with battery is 20lbs. extra battery is 10. the heads are only 4 lbs. Mar 15 08 02:03 pm Link BlueZero wrote: I use a Pelican 1514 and carry it on... Mar 15 08 02:07 pm Link I pay extra per bag and for extra luggage on most any flight, its amusing to me that you are all trying to figure out a way to avoid a 25$ charge for thousands of dollars of equipment. Pay it, get it on an safe and have fun. Beats rental fees on location. I generally en up with 5 bags checked an the lightest comes in 25lbs over the heaviest I try to be no more than 100lbs. Whole bill is under 200$ extra, no big deal, I get to not worry about how much I bring or how well its packed. Mar 15 08 03:19 pm Link Yeah I just want them safe, and they told me no bags more then 75lbs. I'll check on that again. Than find out what is an extra bag charge, sometimes that works out to be cheaper in the end. Or bring assistants and send their clothes ahead, so they can take only your crap onboard, thats what I do when I need to bring a lot of stuff. Mar 15 08 08:12 pm Link Greetings, For my Hensel Porty Premium I use the Tenba Wheeled Air Case when when traveling by Air. I'm very happy with the Tenba Air case. Fully packed it is over the 50 lb. limit so I'm charged extra. For the same excess weight United Air charged me $50, while Delta charged me $80. Cheers! I heard that you're not allowed to keep electronic devices operatable, so that it could not switch on itself by accident? Any experiences? Mar 17 08 05:23 am Link |
