I'm over my fondations!
I've been an artist for about ten years. Five of those I was a MAC artist. My kit is full of different foundations. I'm tired of carrying an entire MAC store to photo shoots. I'm not getting what I want out of any of them. I'm looking for one type of foundation, possibly in a pallette, that looks great on print and film, and is reasonable priced. Should I try Cinema Secrets? Any suggestions, please. These look great on camera...all of my work has been done with one of these 2 for years. Joe Blasco is also good but doesnt come in pallets so you have to scoop them into an empty pallet. Feb 17 06 06:27 pm Link I use Cinema Secrets 5 and 3 the most but I use 4 and 6 as well. 9 or 11 to get the darker colors and mix for custom colors.....I wish they came like the RCMA 16 colors to a pallet  Feb 17 06 06:28 pm Link I hate MAC foundations. They look the worst on film, in my opinion. And forget about touch ups. I use Tarte's Smooth Operator, Bourjois Happy Lights, Shiseido The Makeup Cream, MUFE Face & Body, Chanel, Shu Uemura Nobera, RCMA, Joe Blasco, Visiora, and Cinema Secrets, Gerda Spillman, BeneFit's Playsticks, and Bobbi Brown. When a photographer is shooting digital, I prefer to use something light like Tarte's Smooth Operator or MakeUp Forever's F&B And Bourjois' Happy Lights if I want a glowy look and SU Nobera if more coverage is needed. If I'm doing a commercial or film shot on HD, I prefer Shiseido's The Makeup or Shu Uemura Nobera for women and Visiora for men. When I'm working on a film/broadcast where they are shooting film (35 or 16)I use RCMA, Joe Blasco, CS, Gerda Spillman, Chanel or Shiseido if I'm working on a female celeb, and Visiora. I know I didn't specify for a few of the others I mentioned, but I'm running out of the house. I noticed you are located in Dallas. I use a Japonesque pallette and fill it with RCMA, Cinema Secrets, Joe Blasco, Gerda Spillman, Bobbi Brown, Benefit, Shu Uemura. Not one line has a perfect foundation for every skin type and color. I've used them for so long only because I get an industry discount. Also, their powder and blush brushes shed worse than my Chocolate Lab. Any suggestions on better brushes would be great. Feb 18 06 12:34 am Link I mainly use Cinema Secrets too, never had a problem with them, Also will use RCMA and just playing with the Smashbox and so far so good. But Cinema Secrets first choice. And I agree, dont use ac at all. Think its very over rated and alot of thier products have gone down hill. Feb 20 06 11:33 am Link It's the heaviest, ugliest foundation I've ever used. It looks light and airy on the informercial, but in person it's gross. It makes pores look bigger and by the end of the day my face was so greasy you could fry chicken on it. I also couldn't figure out why my face was always itchy and super sensitive. I don't have sensitive skin. In doing research I discovered there was an ingredient in the foundation that alot of people are sensitive to. I can't recall the name of it...sorry...It's not on the jar either. Bismuth something or another. As far as photography goes, I wasn't brave enough to try it on a shoot. I can't imagine it would be pretty. One of the active ingredients is Titanium Dioxide, which doesn't photograph well. My advice is try before you buy. Go in with a bare face and apply yourself. I never used it again. I've never tried their other foundations. Which type of MAC foundation is this forum referring to? I wanted to add the face and body foundation to my kit because another artist told me that it is perfect for print. Has anyone used it and how is it? Someone also mentioned that MAC brushes aren't that great either. I wanted to purchase some. I now use Sephora Professional brushes. Are the Sephora brushes as good as any other or is there better out there? Last thing, if MAC foundations aren't that great, how come so many photographers look for makeup artists that work with MAC products? I have been trying to experiment with other foundations but I hear that so many are so good like how do I choose. Since I see that CS and Camara Ready is the way to go, I might just try those!! I just so used to the NC and NW of MAC that I'm afraid if I switch, I'll be confused. Any suggestions on how to get over my fear of switching my foundation?? I'm also in love with the Giorgio Armani foundation (only the illuminating). I dont like MAC -I encounter lots of models and friends have an allergy with thier products. Feb 21 06 01:27 am Link I heard that Era's spray on foundation is great. I have never used it but it's what Carmindy uses on What Not To Wear and she says that its the best foundation that she has ever used and recommends it to everyone. I think I might try it. What I did with Armani was go to the counter and I just asked for samples. They gave them to me and were VERY generous with their samples. I later bought a few of the shades to mix.
