This thread will explain how to display images on your profile, as well as
making linkable images and linkable text and bold/italic/strike-throughunderline text.

Please note that bbcode is disabled on Basic level profiles.
More can be read about that here.

A big thanks to PYPI for graciously taking the time to compile all this helpful information.

Many other questions are answered in his "Unofficial Site Related FAQ"

If you'd like to practice and test this newfound skill, please use this thread.
The techniques for posting photos on your profile page also work in the forums.
Knock yourself out...

Please note that it is against site rules to display nudity/mature content in the forums (that includes sheer/bare butt and depictions of blood and violence), and on your profile page.

It should be noted that this site uses BBCode...not HTML. Please don't try to copy/paste html code (from facebook or myspace) as it may cause problems with your profile.

How to embed jpeg images already in your portfolio.

You have two options to embed the image either in the forum or in your profile.

Option 1 is to use the forum code under images not marked as M. Depending on the browser you are using, you may not see this option. There are reports that forum codes will not show in Safari. Using this method will embed a small image.

Option 2 is to open the larger image (not the thumbnail), getting the image location and pasting the location between the bbcode tag [img]image address ending in jpg[/img]. The image location always ends with jpg, gif, png, tif, or bmp, not html or a number. Using this method will embed the full size image. (Note that the first part of the tag is img while the ending part of the tag has a / in front of img).

A. In Internet Explorer using Microsoft Windows, right click on the image - properties - (highlight and copy the address url). Paste this between the bbcode.

B. In Firefox, right click on the image - copy image location. Paste this between the bbcode.

C. In Opera, right click on the image - copy image address. Paste this between the bbcode.

D. In Safari, Control click on the image - copy image address. Paste this between the bbcode.

E. In Google Chrome, right click on the image -copy image URL. Paste this between the bbcode.

Once you have constructed the image bbcode, edit your profile and paste the code into either the bio or credit section by going to My Stuff-Edit Profile.

How to embed images not in your profile but on your hard drive.

Only jpg, gif, tif, and other browser supported images images may be embedded in your profile or the forum. Video, flash, and swf files are not supported.

The steps required to display an image on your profile include:

1. Uploading the image to a image hosting site.
2. Retrieving the image address ending in .jpg.
3. Constructing the image bbcode.
4. Adding the bbcode to your profile.

To embed an jpg or gif image you have on your computer but not on the web, you first have to upload the image to some kind of image host. There are numerous image hosting sites but the easiest and fastest is to upload the image to http://www.filedropper.com/. There is no need to create an account. The downside is that the image may expire at some point.

Other image hosting sites include:
http://imageshack.us/
http://photobucket.com/
http://flickr.com/

To upload an image to www.filedropper.com

1. Click upload and find the image on your computer. Make sure your image is first resized to no wider than 600 pixels.
2. Make sure your image is first resized to no wider than 600 pixels.
3. Did I mention that you should make sure your image is first resized to no wider than 600 pixels?
4. If you don't know how to resize your image, go here: http://www.shrinkpictures.com/
5. After you upload the image, you will see this page.

Use the second line labeled IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards

This will result in this:
http://www.filedropper.com/second/5a5c1f7f343c3db17b0dd0ec586011e6.jpg

I uploaded this on January 19, 2009 so if it is gone by the time you see this, it has expired.

To use one of the other image hosting sites, you have to create and account, upload the picture, and get the image code to embed. Be warned that almost all free hosting sites will have caps on image bandwidth so if you get a lot of hits on your image, it will simply return an image that reads something like "bandwidth exceeded".

All these sites will have some kind of option to link your photo. The key is to use the code that starts and ends with [img]..[/img] or use the image url that ends with jpg. Do not use the link to the html. It will not work.

In www.flickr.com , find the image you want to embed and click the link above the photo that reads all sizes. Choose a size no larger than 600 pixels wide. Copy the address under 2. Grab the photo's URL: and paste it between the bbcode ([img]..[/img])

The resulting image will look like this:

Advanced topic for the geeks. Pretty people should ignore this as it will make your head spin.

How to create a linkable image

Creating a linkable image is nothing more than adding a few parameters to the img bbcode. Remember the image bbcode is [img]image address[/img]. Hyperlinked images are only supported in the forum, profiles, and bulletins.

A linkable image takes this form:

http://images40.fotki.com/v1248/photos/1/156060/842693/4-vi.jpg

The first part is were you want the viewer to go. In this case, I want them to go to the model's page so I'll link her profile url or http://www.modelmayhem.com/781640 . The second part is the actual image address ending in jpg. If you have read this far, you will know that it ends in jpg. In the case of this images, it is  http://modelmayhm-2.vo.llnwd.net/d1/pho … f6a23d.jpg  .

Once formed properly, the resulting image will look like this. Clicking the image will bring you to Marjorie's page:

http://modelmayhm-2.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/080930/22/48e2dd4f6a23d.jpg

If you don't want to memorize this mumbo jumbo, either copy the basic structure to a notepad and just paste it and enter the proper info. I use Clipping add on for Firefox and just paste it as needed. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1347

How to create a full size image that links back to the portfolio image using the forum embed code.

The forum code under each portfolio image will create a clickable link back to that image with a thumbnail of that image. But you can make a slight edit to the code to make a full size image appear instead of the thumbnail image.

Simply copy the code and paste it into the url address line. Before hitting enter, edit the code and remove the _m just before the .jpg.

This is the version with the code as is.

And this is the version with the _m removed.

How to create your own forum embed code

And now we come to this. Safari users cannot see the forum embed code under the image for now. But you can build it yourself. The forum code is nothing more than a linkable image code with the embedded image being a thumbnail size version of the image file. Using the example image above, the forum code for that image is:

Click on this to see the image:
http://images33.fotki.com/v1067/fileAxF … 2693/5.jpg

As you can see, the first part is the link picture page and the second part is the link to the image thumbnail. You can get the image thumbnail location in one of two ways.

1. Right click on the thumbnail and copy image location or
2. Right click on the full size image, get the image location and append _m before .jpg.

Why someone would go to the trouble of building this code manually is beyond me but here it is if you want to do it.

What text effects are permitted in profiles?

bold
strikethrough
italics
underline
These effects are created using bbcodes and take the following syntax.

http://www.briandiazphotography.com/bbcode.gif

Beyond that, you can create any image you want in a photo editor and embed it by using this image tag.

[img]url of image ending in jpg[/img]

You can also create hyperlinked text by using the following bbcode:

http://images42.fotki.com/v1435/photos/1/156060/842693/6-vi.jpg

Replace 'L' with the web address of link. Replace the 'T' with the text you want to display.

You can also embed a flag counter provided by a third party website by going to http://flagcounter.com/ and creating a page counter.

You can also surround your text inside a box by using the bbcode 'quote'. Use the following syntax:

http://images45.fotki.com/v1440/photos/1/156060/842693/7-vi.jpg
