What I've learned this morning: 1. It is impossible to hold Paul down 2. It is even more impossible to hold Paul down while giving him antibiotics 3. Paul is not against using all 11 front claws to maul me during the medication process 4. Eleven claws in your skin hurts like fuck. 5. I'm going to need more medication, because at this rate, most of it is going to end up on me Sigh.

Ms Susie B wrote: Paul is sick? He's been squinting for the past few days, and I got him into the vet yesterday. They looked at his eye, and it's not scratched, but his eyelid is really swollen. Unfortunately, Paul won't let them get a good look so I was given antibiotics for him in case it's an infection, and some eye gel stuff in case it's something else. If his eye doesn't clear up by Saturday, he'll have to go in and they'll knock him out so they can get a good look under his eyelid. So here's hoping the gel and antibiotics work.

Stacey Valli wrote: wow... >.< Perhaps industrial gloves and a body suit?? I just don't have enough hands to hold him down. I can take the scratches, they hurt like hell, but I can deal with them. But if I'm holding down Paul's body, and trying to turn his head, and holding a syringe in one hand filled with medication...it just doesn't work. If I try and hold Paul's head, he wiggles his body away from me. If I try and hold his body down (using my legs as well to hold him in place) he manages to get a paw up to my face and scratch me. If I finally get him down, he whips his head away from me and I can't keep him from doing it because I only have two hands. I really just need another person to hold him down so I can focus on getting the syringe in his mouth, but my boyfriend is at work and Paul has to have the medication now.

Have you tried wrapping him in a big towel to make him a kitty burrito? Once he's wrapped up, you can kneel over him and use one hand to hold his head, then the other to medicate. Good luck!

You know if you grab the scruff of his neck it kinda makes him paralysed (sp?). It doesn't hurt them but they don't move much at all.

Kitty Burrito was a success. I think Paul knew what was coming, because as I lunged at him with the towel, he yelped and ran away. But I managed to catch him, and get him wrapped into the blanket. He has now been medicated.

I think Paul would still manage to move and fight me. Because yesterday at the vet, with me and two other vet techs holding Paul, he still managed to escape and fight back. And I'm pretty sure they grabbed him by the scruff of the neck a few times.

Paul just likes to sit next to me, and right now, the only real place is between me and my laptop. So he helped himself to that spot.

They're next to a class door, so they love laying in their beds and looking outside, but... Grandma neglected to think about the fact that she blasts air conditioning in the summer. The instant she turned on the heat this season, the cats went back to their beds, and they lay in them all day looking outside.

You might try these. They're designed for pills, but they might hold enough liquid to make it worthwhile. Our dog gets pills three times a day, and the canine version was an amazing find. I don't get my thumb gnawed three times a day trying to pry her jaws open to stuff the pills down.

Unfortunately, she's aware of all the little tricks. Pills in treats, pills in food, the whole thing so I don't think I would benefit much from those. (And Paul's antibiotics are liquid, and pink. And yep, it stains.)

(And Paul's antibiotics are liquid, and pink. And yep, it stains.) Bummer. The canine Pill Pockets work amazingly well - if you don't touch the pill to the outside, and just squish the top closed over the pill, the dog never knows it isn't a treat. She gets two in the morning (one-and-a-half pills in one, three in the other), one at noon (half a pill), and one at night (another half a pill.) The funny part is that before, she used to run away when she knew it was "pill time." Now she comes to remind me it's "treat time."

She'll literally eat around the pill. So I'm pretty sure with those pill pouch things, she'd just eat around the actual pill.
