A comprehensive two day course taught by NYC's fashion and beauty photographer and Canon's "Explorer of Light" and "Printmaster" - Stephen Eastwood.

This intense "bootcamp" style workshop will cover the steps necessary to create high quality magazine ready images.  From preliminary steps like how to pick the right model and crew, to diagrams and lighting setups, to image selection and retouching - everything is covered.  Ample shooting time is included so you can take all this newly learned theory and apply it into practice with Stephen's supervision and help.

I have a curriculum planned, but if there is anything specific you want to learn or focus on, throw it out there and I will see if its already planned or can be incorporated in.

The retouching section is not beginner PS, its slightly more advanced, and assumes you know the basics of adjustment layers and masking.

Already setting up the lighting schemes and starting on some lighting diagrams.

Anyone have a good lighting diagram program, mine never seems to have what I want...

Several people asked me  What to bring:  So far this is my list:

I recommend a Camera (DSLR, 35mm, or medium format) Media Cards or film, a means to connect to either a standard hotshoe, or pc sync to connect to strobes (Sony/Minolta cameras may need a hotshoe adapter or pc sync)  Lens can be any range, but on a standard 35mm FF format I suggest a 70-200mm equivalent, though some may want wider, so a range of 24-300mm would all be workable.  Possibly a Camera manual or good working knowledge of your camera body, settings and menu including white balance custom settings.

Lighting is supplied

A computer is useful, but not totally required.  A harddrive to back up is advisable.  To follow along Adobe Photoshop would be most helpful, CS5 preferred, but any version can do.

To have a portfolio reviewed: a PC compatible DVD/CD/CF/SD/Flashdrive with up to 15 images in JPG format Or hard copy printed book.

Pen/Pencil and paper if you are a notetaker.

I also recommend that everyone download adobe DNG converter to be able to utilize and convert any raw files that come from cameras other than your own.  http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/

Some info maybe on location photography would be cool, mixing different lighting types, manipulating white balance and  manipulating ambient light...

The 5 Exposure Variables:

Shutter Speed
Aperture
Flash Power
Flash to Subject Distance
ISO

Thanks....

yes, that can all be covered fairly easily, understanding and utilizing is another story, but explaining in simple language when, where, how, and why to do those things is not that complicated.

Will build that all in to the workshop.

Hey everyone, even with the snow, this is going to be a HOT workshop!

We have lined up some great models!

For the demo model, who is also going to be available for the first day of atendee shooting we have one of my alltime most versatile models Julia!

Julia has been my main go to model for years, she has been the model I use for Canon more than anyone else, many of you may recognize her from several years of Canon brochures from printers to 1DS models, she was the cover of Canons first distributer publication "Canon Connection"  and is still on display at most all Canon tradeshows!  I have used her for covers and editorials as well as ad campaigns!  She is a cross over Fashion and Beauty model and will be a joy to work with on this!  here are the few shots I grabbed from my screensaver and put up so you have an idea of how versatile she is http://www.PhotographersPortfolio.com/julia

Paul will announce the other models we have lined up soon.

I am looking forward to this!!!!

so am i smile

the other two models are Oksana and Diana...

Oksana - https://www.modelmayhem.com/1426437
Diana - https://www.modelmayhem.com/1865151

our regular attendees already know Oksana and know why we booked her for this... she's a beautiful model, with great facial features and she will be ideal for the beauty setups we're doing...

Diana is new to our workshop... we had our eye on Diana for a while now, and finally decided to pull the trigger and book her... she has the "agency stats" we were looking for, along with a unique mix of beauty and sophistication we like in our workshop model...  you guys will like Diana smile

overall, i think we may have our strongest model lineup yet, which a bit weird because we both kept saying that who's on this lineup was irrelevant for this workshop, since this is a learning workshop and not a shootout... but hey, i'm not complaining smile

personally, i am very excited to have Julia there... i've been dying to shoot her for a while now, but she's waaaaaaay out of my league... thank you Stephen for hooking all of us up smile

Here is the first sample I grabbed from the set up.  Hope you enjoyed and learned something from this bonus setup!  Well, other than how to spray a model with cold water  wink
