Jan 16 14 03:22 pm Link Just a little tidbit on Titanium dioxide as well as Zinc Dioxide. They are used in cosmetics not only for their opacity but for their high "refractive index" meaning their ability to reflect light. This is the mechanism that provides SPF. SPF does not absorb the suns rays or just "coat the skin" but actually reflects the suns rays. These minerals are use to coat many items to make them reflect more light, so its no surprise that in photography and the application of makeup they will have a most obvious way producing a glare as you are taking one of the highest reflecting elements on earth and flashing light directly onto it.
